We stayed in one of the large cottages for a weekend with our children and some friends. A quick overview... This is absolutely a case of you get what you pay for! This place doesn't pretend to be something it's not. It's advertised as budget accommodation and budget it is!! It's dirt cheap so if all you need is a bed for the night and a place to have a hot shower, it's great. The stove worked, the fridge worked, the microwave worked the instant hot water system worked a treat, the beds were comfortable and the linen, bathroom and kitchen were clean. They're also pet friendly although we didn't take ours. Now for the down side... The cottages are very dated, there was significant mould and leak damage in the bathroom, and the internal structure of the cottage is all asbestos (painted of course, so safe for the time being), it's ramshackle, it's tired and their maintenance is pitiful with holes and cracks and leaks galore! The water from the taps is brown so make sure you take your own drinking water!!. Loose steps, dodgy railings and even dodgier lino floors, warped doors that won't close (and they're the external ones!! The dust bunnies under the beds were so big they had teeth and were feeding off the accumulated rubbish left by previous tenants!!! LOL It may sleep 14+ comfortably but you wouldn't want to feed that many cause there aren't enough plates, cups or cutlery or places to sit! And the owner was never home to take our payment so we kept getting told to come back later... 'When later?' 'Well, we're not really sure, just later'. Hmm, ok, helpful!! Back to some good stuff... Honestly, it has everything you need for a short stay. Fans in the bedrooms when it's warm, a TV (not that you get much reception but they do provide some DVDs and a radio). There's a log fire for the winter and some couches in the lounge. They also have some lovely friendly horses and goats in an adjoining paddock to the communal backyard who are very grateful for an apple or a carrot if you can spare it which really entertained the kids. Gorgeous, bright and very personable animals and a big selling point of the whole place, especially for an animal lover... Would have been nice to know they were booked in to see a farrier though, their hooves looked in rather a sorry state, mostly from pawing at the fence wire trying to get the attention of anyone in the yard. There is plenty of space for kids to run and play out the back or ride their bikes out the front (although there is a reasonably busy road so they'd need supervision). We saw a sand volleyball court and signage for BBQ areas and a laundry but didn't use the facilities so I can't really comment on them. Pemberton is only a 10 minute drive away so it's nice and close to shops and restaurants. Just to finish off... Look, I know this probably reads a bit harsh but it's the truth. Another truth is that for a 2 day cheap place to stay, this place did brilliantly. It ticked the boxes. Clean (where it mattered), comfortable, decent cooking facilities, great location and the dodgy decor and maintenance made for a great topic of conversation and a few laughs with friends. It's fine! It's cheap, It reminded me of the house my Nanna used to live in. We had fun there and no doubt, we'll go back next year :) Best thing to do though is to have the right attitude from the time you arrive. It's no Karri Valley! It's more backpacker hostel.…
