We were accidentally booked in to The Empire Hotel by our admin staff. We arrived and the staircase was stunning, something out of the history books. That and the restaurant/bar was about where the compliments end unfortunately. The rooms we had, had massive cracks in the walls, the paint work didn't match, their was a smell, the showers weren't clean... More

OK so its a pub so i guess you can really only expect pub grub. It wasn't even half decent pub grub, $17.00 for a horrible garlic prawns seventeeeeeeeen dollars australian. My steak was raw and cold my friends pork ribs were disgusting fatty and tasteless. The side salads and vegetables were much the same, seriously some of the worst... More

Empire Hotel, On our second night in Queenstown the choices of where to dine were very limited, so we checked out this establishment. The building and entry to it is somewhat off putting however we fronted up at the bar and placed our order. While sitting waiting for our meals I looked around at other diners and there seemed to... This hotel is like a ghost ship, with a superb face an loby, but if you go beyond the rooms suffer no improving since the building of the hotel. The rate is very interesting but by having a room there you are only renting an uncomfortable mattress in a noisy atmosphere. The only usefull thing in the room is an... More

We had made a reservation at the Empire Hotel six months earlier but they somehow lost it in the transition of ownership. It was for two nights and they offered to give us a shared bath room free of charge as we had requested en suite. We declined and they suggested the Mt Lyell Motor Inn across the steet. So... More

As a low budget traveler, all I wanted was a safe place to sleep. I got a great old room with clean beds, refrigerator, bathroom, TV, etc. The room was obviously old and floors creaked a bit, but the place had character. It is an old hotel, that makes you imagine its origins as accommodation for people traveling by train... More

Will not stay here again, even if this was the last place with a room in Tassy. Booked for 2 nights, we arrived around 4 PM. The way I was greeted, no pleasantries exchanged, straight to my ID and credit card! Room allotted, asked about the dinner she said only by booking and was available at 630PM. I mistook it... More

Great value, location and service. Yes, it does need a lot of TLC but we got what we paid for. ... Just remember, it is from 1902 and still standing. We had a good food and great time at The Empire Hotel. Thank you for everything. More

The Empire Hotel must have been a grand sight indeed during the Queenstown mining boom. The building is two stories with a beautiful blackwood staircase grandly leading up from the foyer. Unfortunately many years have passed since those days and the Empire Hotel is in need of some work. Although clean, the rooms date to the 1930's (washbasin in the... More

We didn't plan to stop in Queenstown as there is not much to do and it's unfortunately run down and scarred by mining. However we had to stop here en route to commence walking the Overland Track as the Tassie Link buses make you have a stopover here between Lake St Clair and Cradle Mountain. We wandered in without a... More
