My partner and I stayed at Awatuna Lodge in December 2011 as part of a holiday trip up the west coast of New Zealand. Hosts Pauline and Hemi made us feel so welcome when we arrived and for the duration of our visit. Pauline cooked a magnificent lamb fillet roast and fresh vegetables to complement the lamb, some from her... More

We were in Hokitika in January and we decides to stay at the Awatuna Homestead. When we chose it we didn’t know it is a so wonderful place. It is not in Hokitika but a little bit north and it is quite difficult to be found because near the main street there is the railway and the B&B is on... More

A friend of mine from Japan and I stayed at the Homestead for one night near the beginning of a trip around the South Island. We had been travelling for hours and were very tired, neither of us speaking the other's language very well and a little traumatised by the recent earthquake events in Christchurch. Pauline and Hemi and their... More

This was one of the locations where we stayed on our New Zealand trip of 2011. As soon as we arrived here, we have been greeted very warm by Hemi, and a little later by Pauline. When one of the other reviewers said that they feel part of the family, than we can agree fully - that was how we... More

We stayed here to break up our drive down the west coast. This is a beautiful spot located in a small town. The owners are very nice. They go out of there way to make sure that you are comfortable. When were arrived we were greeted by their two dogs and cat. Being an animal lover myself I was so... More

The homestead only offers 4 rooms but all are beautifully furnished with taste of 1800's. Though the room is relatively small, it is very comfortable. It's not difficult to arrive the place with a GPS. But if you don't, better ask the owner for detail directions beforehand. We enjoy the stay there very much not only because of the comfortable... Pauline and Hemi made us feel like we were friends of the family. We enjoyed Pauline's meals immensely and Hemi's local-lore stories. The rooms are small, but very clean and comfortable. And they have a hot tub, and after a day on a bike, that was much appreciated. More

Hemi and Paulina were wonderful hosts. The place was completely charming and breakfast was wonderful. They have a wonderful place and I would definitely recommend a stay here if traveling to the west coast. Only a 10 minute drive to Hokitika the location is perfect and peaceful. If you have the opportunity to stay for dinner, I would suggest doing... More

Hemi and Pauline are wonderful hosts and offer reasonably priced high quality accommodation. Their delightful house with its extremely comfortable and homely bedrooms has a lovely atmosphere, we were made to feel at home very quickly. In spite of the house being virtually brand-new, having been re-built after a large fire, it has the feel of an older property whilst... More

Be aware that the cancellation charges are excessive. Even though I gave 2 1/2 months notice of cancellation, the proprietors insisted on keeping the 25% deposit, which is quite within their rights as per their cancellation policy, but comparitively far in excess of anywhere I stayed on a recent trip to New Zealand - and not within the spirit of...
