Stayed here for three nights in early May 2013. Rang up from Australia the day before and spoke to Cheree who advised that there was a big hockey tournament on in Whangarei but she had one room left at the back which I booked for NZ$105 per night. The room was large, clean and well presented. No problems with the... More

Motel was very Clean - except from that it is all down hill - Booked from display on the Motels web site. observed their displayed price- never dreamed there would be a $15.00 surcharge for my wife. we slept in the same bed - so I guess the surcharge was for her towel and squirt of soap. Smoke alarm was... More

Stayed at motel for just the night because it was close to work function. Wouldn't stay there again our room was tired-does need some work. Lots of children running around motel (think it was some kind of sports day in Whangarei). Children kicking balls around car park by cars, by motel rooms against wall & knocking on our room doors... Really lovely place to stay.. The cat is really cool too!! It's a very handy location and easy to find. The owner/manager was very pleasant. It was good value and I'm not sure what some people expect for their money. $120 per night for 2 adults and 2 children is excellent in this day and age..

This motel is basic, clean, and quiet. We paid $100 NZD for the night and thought that this was a bit high, given that we've stayed in similar places in equally touristy areas for about $20 less. So you may want to shop around a bit before committing. We stayed in the Queen room, which came as well with a... More

At NZ$60-70, this basic motel provided everything we needed, and kept us warm on a VERY chilly night. The staff were friendly and welcoming and although it's obviously an old motel, they had given it a fresh coat of paint and new curtains. All good.

Many thanks for your report. Even the Winterless North needs heating at this time of the year. Kind regards More

Our mission was 5 days in the north working hard, out at dawn and back well into the night. This motel was quite adequate and at the price ($127/night for 2 people in a 2 room unit) was good value. No time to use the pool unfortunaltely. Nice helpful owners. The motel is a little dated and with a few... More

This is a dated but clean Motel, on north side of Whangarei. Two bedroom unit was well priced, and clean. Spacious grounds for kids to run around, nice pool, BBQ, trampoline etc. Traffic noise was minimal and it was a peaceful two nights we spent there. After experiencing three other (noisy) Motels in Whangarei, we found the Sierra to be... More

Very clean older style motel with good facilities that was comfortable and reasonably priced. Helpful and welcoming at reception with very friendly felines also, who are not at all intrusive but certainly welcome attention if you would like to give it.
