By we are searching and found this place eventually by going on line on our tablet and there she was. We were so glad we chose her. Beautifully decorated comfortable beds and scrumptious breakfast and Clive knows how to make real coffee for us Germans "strong and rich" The staff speak several languages which helped us although we speak good... We were last here about four years ago and the transformation is tremendous. it was just great then but it is now an outstanding B&B. The owners adviertise it as an experience of early provincial living in NZ and it is just that, right down to the embroidered table cloths. Very comfortable and elegant beds and the feeling that you... More

Stayed at the YHA Hostel (there's also a B&B). The communal areas were very clean and well maintained. However, there were notices everywhere with 'Rules' on them, found this a bit over whelming. Felt like the B&B, and its guests, get most of the attention/respect over the hostel. Our cabin got quite cold at night, but was clean and the... More

I found the comments regarding notices everywhere rather strange considering there are only three notices throughout the whole hostel. One is in all the bedrooms advising our check out time. The second is in all the bathrooms asking guests would they mind hanging up the floor towels after use and the third one is in the kitchen area advising the... More

Totally charming. Feels a bit like a sweet old boarding house in Europe. The English Breakfast was just perfect and Clive is a darling! Robert is super nice and my husband and I had such a good time chatting with our perfect hosts. We were there for the 7.0 earthquake and Clive really took care of us, making sure we... More

I stayed 2 nights in a twin share room. The service was very good, owner friendly. Kitchen facilities were clean and spacious. It is located a little way from the main shops for people who don't have cars. The shower is very good lots of hot water except shared one person at a time.

YHA room pretty basic, however as this was only an overnight stop, the hotel met our expectations. Shower was very good (although shared). Owner was friendly. I thought it a bit expensive for what you got.

I used YHA of dormitory room just 1night. But, it's really clean there. Kitchen, bathroom, room are cleanliness. This time travel to NZ is third time for me, but almost backpacker's kitchen was so dirty. I recommed to stay here, who likes clean and comfy.

We booked this hostel which is also a B&B/guesthouse through the YHA website and it said reception was open until 10pm. We arrived at this hostel at 9:10pm and there were very few lights. We wandered around a little while before calling the number on our booking at 9:18pm after knocking a few times. The owner answered and was a... More

These people arrived late (just before 10pm) on a weeknight and they said they came from Rotorua which is only 3-1/2 hours away and when they arrived I asked them to be very quiet because people were asleep and we had a large tour party in, who had all retired at 9.30pm because they wanted to get away early for... Stayed at the hostel facilities behind the B&B. Our room was really sweet, and because it was off peak season, we were the only ones there for most of the time. If it ever gets busy though, I'm sure the whole one-bathroom thing could be quite annoying. The kitchen and lounge facilities were really homey, and the staff at the... More
