Location is pretty good (although not opposite the beach as stated in Lonely Planet) and upon arrival all looked good. Room was spartan but adequate and had lockers with built in power sockets which was good. However........ a) The 'free shuttle' to Gold Coast airport (the main reason we stayed here) which the hostel literature said commenced at 630am didn't... More

neither me & my friends ever stayed in a hostel before, we can conclude that it was not a bad experience. the beds are comfortable & clean. we were lucky enough to have the whole dorm to just the 3 of us since I believe it was a low season, thanks to Ian, the Manager for that. the kitchen are... WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!!! to look at it the sands has got everything in place to make a great hostel experience but manages to disappoint on every single level.the atmosphere amongst the staff and backpackers alike would not be out of place at a funeral, however, logistically it works, security doors and north facing reception booth is a great comfort so... We stayed for one night in a private room. The room itself was bare bones, just a bunk bed and cupboards (lockable) for storage, but it was very clean and the mattresses were comfortable. Sheets, pillows and blankets were provided, and the air conditioner worked very well. The noise level was pretty bad, but it was on a Friday night... More

This is the loudest place you will ever try to sleep in. The large communal balcony is accessed from each of the rooms and the doors to it may as well not be there. You further pay for the incredibly good and central location by being above, across and next door to bars and they are open late. Although itself not... More

On a summer weekend, the pub downstairs might change things, but for me this was one of the best hostels I stayed in. It's really well designed with big modern rooms, clean toilets and showers, a massive laundry kitchen. It's right in the centre of town as well and meters away from the beach. The welcome from the girl on... More

If you want to get away from the party scene of Byron Bay and Gold Coast this is a great option. In a great location this place was really quiet, which is very strange for a hostel. It's located on top of a pub and minutes from the beach and cafes. Showers and toilets are clean, good size kitchen and... More
