This place is in a lovely location and we had a really well-appointed room (bit of a steep climb with a heavy suitcase tho'). Reception staff were very welcoming and helpful throughout. Being part way through a 5 week trip we really appreciated the surprisingly cheap laundry service. The rather restricted breakfast menu was a little disappointing and the one dinner we had there seemed rather pretentious and not value for money.

We had three rooms on the property and had a very lovely experience. We went with our girlfriends and spent the day wine tasting and the night at the restaurant on property. Nothing is better than waking up at a beautiful resort, having a coffee on the back patio and watching 'roos jump by. Top notch luxury estate that never felt pretentious or stuff. Very well done.

Traveling solo and needing some positivity, I couldn't have landed at a better place. Admittedly, this hotel is not priced for the faint of bank, but my oh my, it was JUST what the universe ordered in customized warmth, style & hospitality!! I stayed 2 nights and wanted to stay a week to soak it all in. The wine country, the spa, the restaurants...top notch! One restaurant on property & they will shuttle you over to Eremo...another gem! An experience for the books!! ❤️❤️

We have been many times and keep coming back. Love our couples weekend getaway here. After a day at the wineries it’s perfect to come back to spicers and relax in front of the fireplace. Highly recommend.

We visited for just one night to see some friends who were staying here, we wish we had stayed longer. Super friendly staff on arrival, very helpful and friendly. Super lovely rooms, so comfortable and relaxing. The restaurant was perfect, the food was outstanding, and the service was exceptional. The surroundings are tranquil and peaceful, you might spot the odd kangaroo as well which was lovely. We can highly recommend staying here. Thank you to all the wonderful team that works here for making us feel so welcome and for looking after us so well. We hope to return one day for a bit longer. Thank you, John & Simon

We stayed at the Spicers Vineyard House. The setting was beautiful but the house was not 5 star. There were coals lying underneath the outdoor fire from the previous night's guests and the house could do with a thorough clean. The smell of effluent from the septic tank meant we could not sit at the swimming pool. Disappointing for the price paid.

Good location in the heart of the hunter valley wine region. The grounds are really nice and we also used the push bikes provided to explore the local area (they charge extra for the electric bikes which we thought was a bit cheeky). We had a nice meal at their restaurant and were lucky enough to see lots of Kangroos but overall just felt like the hotel really wasn’t worth the money - nothing about it felt luxurious at all, it was all very basic and we felt it needed a refurb.

I haven't been in these rooms yet to review them and now won't! Back in May we reserved rooms over the Xmas period to have a nice break, just for a change. We were looking forward to gourmet dining over the festive period and of course, Xmas lunch. Our travel rep didn' t have details at that time but said the menu would be up nearer Xmas. Fast forward to this week...having heard nothing from anyone, I checked and sure enough there was the Xmas lunch - at an extra $250pp on top of the $1000 per day premium rates we'd already paid! To add insult to injury someone had made the executive decision to just give us a hamper to have in our room on Xmas Day - WITHOUT INFORMING US. Surely the entire point of having the Xmas period away is to have Xmas dinner provided wherever you are. This is extremely shabby treatment of your customers, Spicer's....not because of any problems with staffing which we would understand, but because of your complete lack of communication over what is a big deal to most people.…

We stayed at hermitage lodge which was great. Very spacious suite and spotlessly clean. Huge balcony also next time we go to the Hunter Valley this is where we shall stay . The on-site restaurant was really good with a relaxed atmosphere. Delicious food.

When looking at the accommodation choices online, we couldn’t decide between Spicer’s Vineyard Estate and The Convent. In the end we decided to book one night in each to experience both properties and their respective restaurants. If are currently reading these reviews to decide between the two hotels, then don’t hesitate and pick up the phone to Spicer’s, as it wins hands down. While not as aesthetically pleasing as The Convent, Spicer’s is still a beautiful property and having an open fireplace in your room is never a bad thing. The style is more modern country, with the room being large and comfortable. The check-in and check-out were both friendly and efficient, with nice touches like giving guests free flower seeds to plant at home. The real difference is Botanica, which is a beautiful intimate restaurant. We had a warm welcome from the team and our waitress was amazing. She was only 19 years old but was engaging and had a great knowledge of the wine list and the food on the menu. The wine she recommended was perfect, the dishes she recommended were amazing. Between the restaurant, the service and the food, my wife and I had a memory we will keep for the rest of our lives. Our waitress not only represented the hotel well, but she promoted the local suppliers so well that we went out of our way to go to Charteris and spend more than anticipated on a few wines and change our route home to stop in at Kuri Kuri Bread Basket to pick up some Sour Dough bread to take home. The room, the open fires and the amazing food and service will see us returning to this property again.…
