This is a basic hotel/pub/restaurant ion a very small town with limited options for accomodation. The sign on the road says Welcome to Glenorchy - Gateway to Paradise" - and it really is. This hotel is not five star by any description but I sometimes wonder what other reviewers expect for a very low cost! Our room was comfortable (not... More

Those familiar with the little village of Glenorchy will know that it is the nearest settlement to one end the famous Routeburn pass walking track. This convenient location was my reason for wanting to stay there. Availability of accomodation in Glenorchy is however very limited. I was in due course to find out the consequences of limited choice and competition.... More

Stayed both at the hotel and at the back pack. The hotel would be OK if it was a back pack but hardly worth $90. Very worn and dirty, shared bathrooms. The back pack was no better. Kitchen in a mess, rubbish bin not emptied for several days as it looked. The showers were also in urgent need of a... More

Glenorchy Hotel & Backpackers...I stayed in the BP's section, and found that for 30 kiwi $ a night, you really expect more than they are offering (plenty of other places are much nicer, in just as beautiful locations, for less money). Given the general standard of cheaper backpackers/hostels around NZ, it's amazing that they get away with the place as... More

I stayed at the Glenorchy Hotel for one night. My room was clean and functional and was a good base for accessing the Routeburn track. You might want to consider other accomodation if you are looking for any of the modern conveniences. The decor is dated, there are no tv's or hairdryers etc in the rooms and I found the... More

We booked two nights at the Glenorchy Hotel but ended up staying only one night. It was overpriced for what you get - somewhat drab, outdated rooms, no kitchen or fridge. We checked out and found a room at the Mt. Earnslaw Motel which was cheaper than the GH and much nicer.
