I don't know how it's possible but I've seen frat houses cleaner than this place. The kitchen is the worst and smells exactly like rancid, rotting meat. As expected, it's pretty hard to sleep here. We had some drunk, German teenagers playing their guitars and "singing" in our dorm room until 2am and one of them dropped a bottle of... More

It is in the middle of the town, burstling with travellers from around the world. Lots of noise from bar downstairs. We got a private suite and it was not very clean and bed was bad. It's cheap, though. I wouldn't come back as couple, 20 bucks is worth for a better place. If you're travelling alone, it might be... More

I've heard mixed reviews about staying in Base hostels due to the 'party' reputation. I stayed here as part of a Stray tour so stayed on the Stray only floor in a 6 bed dorm with en suite. The room was really nice up on the third floor away from the bar noise, the beds comfy with individual lights and... More

Especially comparing it to the Base in Wellington it was very cool. The floor we stayed in had been refurbished and looked really cool (in its "Stray" outfit). The kitchen and lounge aren't anything special. However, the internet area near reception is big enough for everyone to have some internet time. They have a club right next door and you... More

The staff was really rude and unhelpful. People were partying all night, screaming and slamming doors. It said on hostelworld that Base provides free internet, BUT that turned out to be only for 15min!! When I asked about it, the staff was rude and couldn't care less. Kitchen was filthy, and there was no toilet paper on toilet. First and... More

We stayed there 2 nights with 2 couples. "Stay at base" was sold out and so we had to wait for the rooms. The waitin garea was absolut crowded. The rooms had been right above the disco. Enjoy the night! Early in the morning, after the short time of sleeping, starts the loud traffic. The room was pretty clean. BUT... More

Queenstown is hub of all things exciting, adrenaline pumping. Base Queenstown houses people who are after that exciting experience. If you're after peace and quiet, this is not for you. Facilities are great, clean room and fabulous bathroom, communal kitchen is better than it's sister hostel in Wanaka. Base Queenstown seems be located next to meeting point of pub/party goers... Great location for the hostel and its cheap. We generally stay at backpackers if we are doing big trips as the money saved on beds is money we can spend on staying away longer. As with all backpackers you cant expect much. However this place did surprise as the rooms get a fridge and tea and coffee facility's, we also... More

Stayed here with 3 friends (2 guys, 1 girl) in April 2011 for 3 nights. Right in the central hub of Queenstown so this place is ideal in terms of location. Fergburger is across the road for the midnight munchies. Groundfloor is reception with access to computers/internet and the pub/club next door. They do have Wifi as well. Service was... More

Nice hostel in the perfect location in town, recommend for young travellers who like to go out drinking late. The bar/club downstairs will most likely disrupt your sleep if you're on that side of the building but the room being so nice made up for it and I go used to the thumping bass after one night. In our private... More
