My wife and I concluded our month long trip to Australia and New Zealand at the Azur Lodge on the South Island of NZ. It was a fitting ending to an amazing trip! The Azur is a spectacular property located on the hillside above Queenstown, with beautiful views of the city, Queenstown Bay, Lake Wakatipu and the mountains appropriately named The Remarkables. The stunning view as you enter the villa is breathtaking. Whether sitting on the balcony or luxuriating in the bath you are surrounded by natural beauty. The staff is extraordinary; well trained, engaging and personable. The breakfast each morning - served in either our room or at the lodge was delicious. The room was beautifully/luxuriously appointed. We can't say enough superlative things about our stay at Azur!

This is a remarkable place. All the staff were amazing and so helpful. Nothing was to much for them. Always friendly and smiling. The room is spacious and comfortable. The in- room dining is great when you are in a lazy mood. The chef is excellent and the afternoon drinks and canapés were lovely. The views from the room is spectacular. A must stay!

We stayed at Azur at the end of a two week vacation through New Zealand. It was the perfect way to end our trip. The team at Azur is wonderful and attentive. They made every part of our stay so special. Breakfast was delicious. The afternoon tea and canapés were such a nice touch. We appreciated the drives into town for dinner, hiking, etc. We celebrated my birthday during this stay and the team helped my husband with special touches upon our arrival. Not to be forgotten- the view from our villa was spectacular. Queenstown was our favorite city. The Azur team was helpful with recommendations of local things to do. I highly recommend Azur! 5 stars!

This place is spectacular. It is luxury on steroids. Each cabin is so private. The amenities are excellent. The food is amazing, as is the great staff. Catalina, Will, Alex and Victoria made our stay a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The view of the lake and the mountains from our room was enough that we didn't want to leave. We could have just stayed on-property the whole time. Don't miss it.

Azur Lodge is other worldly. The lodge is gorgeous, peaceful and provides spectacular rooms and views. The people are truly world class and from around the world. They are the kindest, most helpful, professional and wonderful people. They are immediately like friends…that want you to have the most positive memorable experience. This is our second visit to Azur…last time was 8 years ago. And Azur is simply consistent world class. To me, Azur is a must stay home away from home…as everything about it…is uplifting, kind, positive and simply the place to create magical memories. we shall return.

Not what we expected. We didn’t think this was 5 star at all. PROS—if you like lodging close to a city, Azur is very close to the hustle and bustle of nice restaurants and shops in Queenstown. Views from rooms are ok. CONS—rooms are NOT luxurious, carpet is cheap and very low quality, TV is oddly placed and low quality, beds are 2 singles joined together so you can feel the ridge in the middle, and my husband’s side was lower than my side. Very uncomfortable for couples!!! Bathroom area was nice though. Huge flies were flying around in our room when we checked in. The rooms are located downhill and you have to walk up and down very steep hills to get to your room. My husband and I are very fit and we could do the walk but this is not a friendly walk for older folks or disabled folks. They have golf carts that can drive you up and down but it’s still a very steep hill. The food is just average. The breakfast served in the room was not complete—an item was missing from our order, the plate was sweaty because it came covered because it was transported from the lodge all the way down the hill. My coffee came in a sippy cup so that it didn’t spill. Sippy cup in a 5 star hotel??? Nahhhh!! There’s no dinner option in the hotel. You have to head to town to eat or order Uber eats . The missing dinner option actually in my opinion makes this hotel/lodging a 3 or 4 star at the most. I’m not sure where the 5 star reviews come from, but my husband and I did not like this hotel. Sorry to burst your bubble but we have traveled extensively and stayed in many luxurious 5 star hotels all over the world and Azur lodge is a 3 star….maybe we’ll give it 4 star because of the nice bathroom and the proximity to town. There were even cobwebs in the table lamp!! We had just stayed 2 nights in Blanket Bay resort in Glenorchy and that was EXCEPTIONAL!!!—-a 10 star hotel!!!! If you’re looking for true luxury, go to Blanket Bay…I’d give Azur a miss!!!

Response from Danielle Ingle, General Manager at Azur
Responded 7 Dec 2023
Kia Ora Lyabo, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. Pleased to see you enjoyed the spacious bathrooms, the location of being close to Queenstown, and the views. We appreciate your feedback regarding the bed, I have passed this valuable feedback on to our owners, since upgrading to thick feather mattress toppers we have not received any negative feedback on the beds, but a luxurious sleep is something we take very seriously at Azur Lodge. I am sincerely sorry for the 2 flies in your villa upon arrival, unfortunately, this time of year we are constantly fighting them. I shared your feedback with the team, and they are now keeping the doors and windows closed as this is when they come inside the room. While we are on a steep hill, this is what gives us the lake views from every villa, we have the golf buggy to transport guests to and from the front door of the villas. Another great option for breakfast is to dine in the main lodge, where we serve coffee in mugs, and run the food directly from the kitchen. The in-villa breakfast does need to travel in the portable oven down the hill and the coffee in keep-cups to keep it hot. I must say that I am jealous of guests enjoying the in-villa breakfast in their private villa in their bathrobes in the morning. I can also recommend taking the lid off the keep cup and drinking from the glass, rather than sipping from the lid. Azur has never cooked dinner on-site, as there are lovely lodges nearby that offer that service. Instead, Azur Lodge supports all the great restaurants in downtown Queenstown, just 7 minutes’ drive away. Many of our guests have had in-lodge dinners throughout their stays in New Zealand and enjoy dining out in the vibrant town and using our service of complimentary transfers. Luxury means different things to different people, Azur Lodge is known for its manaakitanga, our Kiwi hospitality and guests are often raving about the service they received while staying with us. We pride ourselves on connecting with our guests and offering a very high level of service that is also welcoming and friendly. If you do return to this part of the world, we would love to have the opportunity to host you and I am confident you will have a more positive experience. Ngā mihi, Danielle General Manager

My husband and I were in NZ for 2 weeks and Azur was the highlight of our trip. The staff are incredibly kind and friendly and really do try to tailor everything to your needs and preferences. The villas are beautiful and the tiniest details have been considered - heated floors, plenty of towels, fluffy robes, a hair straightener/flat iron, toothbrushes, makeup remover, a mini sewing kit, a yoga mat… just to name a few. The villas are spacious and comfortable and we honestly had to make ourselves leave. I slept so well every night and had the worlds best view to wake up to. The food is delicious and made to order. Even without a formal restaurant on the property, the lodge provides so much food between breakfast, canapés and afternoon tea that you barely even need dinner! But when you are ready for dinner, there is always someone available at the lodge to drive you into town (5-10 mins at maximum) or you can order takeaway and have it brought to your villa. The views from the property and the villas are just amazing. We had a few rainy days and even those views are just as beautiful. There are so many places in NZ that make you feel like you’re living in a picture and the views of the Remarkables and Lake Wakatipu are no different. If you value experiences and want a few days to press pause and soak in the beauty in Queenstown, this is the place to do it!

My wife and I have stayed at a plethora of the worlds most luxurious hotels. Azur lodge hands down wins the title for the best service we have ever received. In a post-Convid era of exuberant prices and less value and service of money, Azur is the exception. The staff know exactly what you need almost without asking. They are friendly without being over friendly and appear whenever you need them. Our lodge was made up and serviced perfectly each day. Something that is often missing of top end hotels across the globe. The food was impeccable and the free shuttle to almost anywhere in Queenstown made our stay even better. For somewhere to relax and enjoy the serenity of Queenstown, this is the only place you need to be. I always like to offer one tip for improvement and I could only find one small thing and that was the fried eggs were not to my liking and the yoke hard and not over easy when requested. However that is a nit pick and 99.99% of our stay was exemplary. Keep up the great work team!

Azur is not only situated in a spectacular location with beautiful views from all aspects of the property, but the staff and amenities were fantastic, which made for a wonderful stay. We received welcome drinks on arrival and the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. We were able to request transfers to and from the main town of Queenstown and received afternoon tea and canapés in our room with spectacular views each evening.

Did not want to leave this remarkable place. Queenstown is happening. We were looking for a place with access to all the fun, but with a chiller vibe. Azur uses their perfect location and jaw-dropping views in just the right way. Each suite is private, with an outdoor deck, soaking tub with mountain and lake views, fireplace, mini bar that is restocked (and included in the room rate). Their kitchen staff make delicious breakfasts and offer both tea and evening canapés. But since they do not serve dinner, they have drop-off and pickup service in Queenstown, and they also offer to bring out carry-out into your own villa for dinner. Staff was attentive, warm, and helpful every step of the way.
