i'msurprised at some of the negative comments below, The price is generally a guide to what you get so for $70 having a warm A-frame with linen provided and a comfortable bed met my expectations well. We stayed in early April and it was very warm at night with the duvet provided. Chairs or a sofa would be a good... More

Like a lot of other reviewers have stated - accommodation is adequte, but not good if you're tall. Yes there is SKY up at the bar and no they don't have radio, so the ipod comes in handy. Bed comfy, heater worked well. For us it was ok.

We had a good nights stay at Makarora. It was as advertise don their website and as we were passing through it was perfectly adequate as a place to stay. As others have noted nothing flash. some of the rooms are tucked away in the bush so they are really private. Have a look on google maps to see what... More

This is really an " outward bound " sort of place for those that are happy to be without the usual comforts of a motel room . There is no TV ( reason they gave was no reception for TV but they had SKY in the bar - so why not sky in each room ? ) not even a... More

We were booked here as part of a tour and there probably weren't a lot of choices but having stayed here I would rather have driven futher or got up earlier to avoid this place. The rooms are basically school camp level, very basic a-frame cabins buit in the 60s or 70s with minimal maintenance since. There are no phones.... More

A nice wooden house with about 9 beds in it. All single beds (not bunk beds) which is all right & they are quite comfortable. There is only one toilet in each house which stops you from sleeping if other people is using the toilet late at night or early morning as you can even hear what's happening in there... More

It was nice to have a basic accomodation, like we used to have whilst travelling. We had a cabin for the four of us and it was fine. Clean and adequate for our one nights stay. With basic cooking facilities and a short romantic walk to the toilets and showers which were both clean. After dinner we walked to the... More

Definately off the beaten track, a very quiet hostel we were obviously staying in their quiet season and it was freezing! We had a double room in one of those A-frame huts advertised. The room was large with only a small heater above the bed, there was also 3 other single beds in our room which we felt was a... More

We were on the way to the West Coast and stopped for the night at Makarora. We arrived quite late at night but we still managed to check in. I loved the A frame cabin that my friends and I stayed in. It accommodated the 4 of us with 1 queen bed and 2 single beds. We had our own... More

On my way towards the west coast I camped here for a night. The campsite was reasonable with some trees. Facilities were ok, but no more than that. Showers and toilets were clean enough however quite old. It's really quiet. There were however very few guests staying. I had a reasonable burger and a few beers in the pub, which... More
