First of all, let me explain the layout of the guesthouse. There are four rooms upstairs: the latino room and the pacific room, which face busy Aro street, and the deco room and the bengali room, which face the back. The two rooms facing the front suffer from a lot of street noise, whereas the two rooms facing the back... More

A great location within walking distance to all the sights of the city in Wellington. Walk out the door and enjoy a delicious breakfast at one of the quaint cafes nearby, bus stop almost at the doorstep, corner shops closeby as well. Francesca and Joyce gave excellent advice on what to do in Wellington, local knowledge is always helpful and... More

I stayed at the Mermaid for 4 nights, one night on my own, the others with a friend. We both liked the atmosphere of the Mermaid and were made very welcome. Mermaid is in Aro Valley, very central, we could walk to town. There is a superette and a fruit shop plus several coffee places just across the road. Aro... More

Really enjoyed our stay here. It's a very short walk to Cuba Street and an even shorter one to a range of cute coffee houses. The B&B is in a lovely old building and the rooms are extremely comfortable and beautifully decorated. Luxury robes and towels all provided. A well equipped kitchen is available if you want to cook dinner,... More

We really enjoyed this lovely women-only guesthouse located in beautiful Aro Valley area. Nice old house with rather unique interior decor and style - certainly not "just another guesthouse"! Very clean and well-kept place. Excellent beds, and the area is very quiet during the night-time. Shared bathroom is a minus, but since there wasn't so many guests during our stay... More

I stayed at the Mermaid Guesthouse for three months and really enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and colorful surroundings. The hosts were really helpful and it was always a pleasure to catch some small-talk with one of the hosts Joice, who lives down-stairs in the house, across a warm cup of coffee in the morning. The house has its very personal... More

I recently stayed at The Mermaid Guesthouse for 2 weeks and found it to be absolutely wonderful!!! The owners are very welcoming and very accomodating. There is a feeling of peace and calm throughout this Guesthouse and this adds to the overall enjoyment of being a guest at The Mermaid! Would recommend it without a moments hesitation!

We found this place to be rather disappointing for the money. At $135 a night I expected the ensuite to have a bath tub but there was only a shower and the bathroom was very cramped. The house was also dusty and slightly musty smelling. My partner who has asthma had to use her puffer 3 times in the space... More
