We got a beautiful room, ensuite, really more like a hotel than a backpackers, complete with fridge and kettle. The staff is super-friendly, both Martin and Beth were always there with a smile. I had Christmas break for two weeks. I only planned three days in taupo. As a result, I spent 11days there, including new year. It's justified to be No,1 on BBH website in taupo. I just couldn't leave there, literally, I extended my staying every next morning. No bunk beds there. Beds are comfortable. Free coffee and cheap Internet provided.... More

blackcurrant is overall a lovely backpackers but without oropax or at least 2.5 per mille, you wont be able to catch much sleep in the lower floor rooms. literally, you hear every step, flush, coffing from all the neighbor rooms... and many people start to move around 5.30 to vet on their trips... however there are some pluses + good... We enjoyed our weekend at the Blackcurrant - a very warm welcome and help when I mislaid my husband (and room key)! Our room was very comfortable and the bathroom was very good. The kitchen was well equipped and overall pretty clean. I would definitely stay here again when we are next in the area.

Lovely owners, clean and tidy. Cheap to stay there. So close to the city and Pak n Sav. Great for a group to stay there as the courtyard is a great place to hang out and have a bbq in the sun. Facilities are so clean, and teh kitchen is a great space for socialising

This place is worth every dollar - spacious rooms, very clean throughout, kitchen is light and airy and has everything you will need, great staff and good location. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Taupo.

We enjoyed our one night stay at this friendly, homely hostel. It's a converted motel and therefore I think the rooms are pretty spacious - our double en suite had an extra bed and lots of floorspace.
