My husband and I stayed for two nights over New Year's, we love the Mousetrap! This was my third visit and even with the rain we had a lovely time. Jake as always was great, helped us find a day hike near by. Centrally located, clean & quiet, friendly atmosphere, plenty of spots to lounge, cook, eat & relax. Plus... More

Jake, the owner, is very helpful and friendly and showed us to a small but nice double room. It can get a little bit noisy because it the toilets and showers are right outside but you soon get used to it. There is also a kitchen outside another adjoining door and a lounge but Jake warns everyone that this lounge... More

Clean facilities, good parking, quiet and central, only personal problem was queue for laundry facilities taking it past the noise curfew resulting in a lot of wet clothes with no access to a dryer! More

Lovely hostel, clean, tidy and a warm friendly atmosphere. Helpful staff gave a great intro to the area including all the local shops and their hours/prices and details for the ferry. Room was comfortable, and bathrooms were clean and plentiful. Can't recommend it highly enough! More

This hostel was great, even though we stayed out of season, it was perfect for a few days rest. It has three kitchens and two large lounges with a lovely warm fire and a friendly atmosphere. Beds and bathrooms are clean and well maintained. Nice views from the balcony across the bay of islands and free bikes to use. No... More

Definately the BEST place we stayed at in NZ. Jake the owner was really nice and friendly, and genuinely seems to care about his guests. We stayed in a double room which was really spacious for a backpackers. It even had a chest of drawers and a cupboard with hangers. It was so nice to be able to unpack our... More

We loved this backpackers. The kitchens were clean, the common areas were tidy and quiet. They consider themselves to be a "quiet hostel" and there's no alcohol allowed on the premises. It's not a party scene, but there are a few bars located across the street that you can go to if that's your thing. We stayed in a double... More

The hostel itself was ok and the owners are extremely friendly. The facilities though are somewhat restrictive but overall it was not a bad place to base your trip from. More

My partner and I stayed at The Mousetrap in January and were very impressed with the hostel. It is owned by a very helpful couple who answered all our questions and helped up book an excursion. We stayed in a double room, which was spotless. The main floor is all doubles and twins with 2 separate kitchens. The bathrooms and... More
