If you're looking for corporate predictability, perhaps you should avoid Cedar House but we loved it. It was a special experience. The house itself is grand and well-proportioned with beautiful native woodwork. The owner has a way of looking at the world and indeed the hospitality business which is refreshingly different. I agree with the previous review - I'm just not sure what Cedar House is - is it a B&B or some sort of hotel? I also agree that the breakfast was terrible by New Zealand standards - I've never had such bad breakfast of cut price rice puffs and orange cordial! In fairness however, there is alot of value... Not really a B&B, more a small hotel with a Manager in residence. The place was clean where the duster touched, move one of the piles of DVD,s or books and piles of dust were exposed. We arrive about 17h00 and the breafast plates and debris had not been cleared away. The breakfast was a joke. On a side table... More

Cedar House is off the beaten track but still walking distance to most any restaurant and bar in Gisborne. Very nice facility with comfy rooms and common area. Good option for Bed and Breakfast fans. More

I only had one night in Gisborne, but was very glad I chose to spend it here. Fantastic room with every comfort and genuinely friendly and welcoming hosts - would recommend it without hesitation. More

Mar 04: Very welcoming stay. Fabulous house, great bedroom with lovely bathroom and the most comfortable bed! Huge breakfast. Helpful owners happy to chat and socialise. Would not hestitate to return if visiting Gisborne again. More
