To be honest this place is fine, its in central Auckland, near some nice restaurants and some good bars for nights out. My room wasn't as bad as I was expecting, it was a mixed 8 man room with windows facing the street. The bed had a locker underneath which was handy for keeping items safe. Also having a electronic... So Base Central Backpackers Auckland is a good place to stay. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfy! It was quite a large and inpersonal hostel, but for somewhere to crash in town in the centre, its pretty good. The kitchen is ok, a bit too big and there was not always enough pans or cutlery. But it... More

Stayed here one night, in 4-bed ensuite dorm. I actually ended up sleeping in a normal bed, instead of bunkbed. Atleast room 1102 has 2 bunkbeds and 2 normal "solo" beds. The building is run down, it smells like uncleaned kitchen or restaurant. Staff is stiff and worn down as in all of the Bases in NZ, they process you... More

Oh my god. Did not expect such a disaster. Location is good but there are too much young people who comes to get drunk and do not respect others. I was in a dorm of 8 people. I always had ear plugs but still was not enough. With the UK girls who dry their hair at 6am and the young... More

Three other friends and myself stayed in a 4 bed dorm. It wasn't a huge room but the window was quite big, so plenty of fresh air and trees outside. Location is good, many shops and food places nearby. Lively area at night, quite safe too. Just have to wait quite a while for the lift to hostel.. just take... More

My girlfriend and I recently checked out of base after somewhat stupidly making this our 'base' in Auckland for over six weeks. The hostel itself is a big place with hundreds of people coming and going everyweek so i'm sure one bad review won't stop people going here but this place could really do with more of a personal touch,... My daughter and I stayed here for one night on the 28th March 2012. We were attending a gig at the Powerstation. We booked a twin room with ensuite. Positives Excellent location, right on Queen Street. Easy access to buses. Airport bus stops right outside the hostel. Staff were friendly and helpful The room was small but adequate and was... More

This was the very first hostel I have stayed at and now at the end of my trip i can safely say it was the worst!!! I arrived to rude receptionists and was put in a dorm with 3 men and had one sleeping in my bed!!! After telling reception about my issues of the dorm being trashed and all,... More

Over a few years of travel, have seen lots of ads for different Base hostels and had never been in one. They were always more expensive than other hostels and the ads made it look quite nice. Definitely a case of false advertising. We spent 2 nights at the Auckland city location. The stay was part of our visa package... More

The perfect location for Auckland, for the bus to the airport, for the buses that go around the 'loop' and for the ferries that go out to the islands and over to Coromandel. I stayed a few nights. It was a far cry from the blissful Shangri la in Thailand but I needed to claw back some of my budget.... More
