Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I had room 186, facing… rubbish bins! The room itself is neat, clean, bed is comfy. Pillows are so so and there is very little pression for hot water (don’t bother opening the cold water tap, hot to the max delivers the bare minimum hot water). Good choice of liquid soap in the shower They should clearly say during booking process that the view is “obstructed”. The breakfast was a let down: expensive $36, had very poor choice and was just average for whatever was offered. I was just surprised that for the price of a proper meal in a good restaurant you have such a basic choice. The pool was too cold and tiny.

This is a popular spot to stay, close to Flinders Street, to catch the tram and go to The Australian Open Tennis! Always our choice. Room this time on 8th floor. Pleasantly situated and well laid out. Generous supplies in room/ bathroom. Comfortable bed and room layout. Spacious desk, good hanging space and facilities. Dining in Vic's Bar at night, after tennis, great. Breakfasts at Mister Munro are very good with a wide range of breakfast foods.

So this in a great location in Little Collins Street right in the centre of Melbourne CBD yet an oasis - once you're in your room it's quiet and peaceful. Broadly, the hotel is in very good condition given it’s an older style hotel in a mid-low pricepoint that might very much have been let go by management/owners who care less. Check-in was really easy with a very friendly reception and super accommodating when asking for a quiet room. The room was clean, spacious and with a great desk to work from plus pretty good natural light and reliable wifi. Bed was a little soft but only because I prefer a firm mattress. The bathroom is quite large and user friendly. Definitely recommend it and will stay again.

Stayed 12 nights in this charming historic hotel in the heart of the city. Rooms were surprisingly spacious & beds exceedingly comfortable. Carpets in east wing a bit worn & shower could have used more attention (door didn’t close, floor grout needed cleaning), otherwise everything perfectly acceptable. All staff very friendly & helpful throughout stay, including at adjacent Mr Munro’s restaurant (where we enjoyed a la carte breakfast almost every morning) and upstairs in Vic’s Bar (ditto their daily happy hours)…all in all a great value & we will be back!

Really nice hotel for the price. Stunning room (281). Friendly staff and hotel manager let us check in early with no issues which was super helpful. On site parking and reasonably priced. Fantastic location - literally a 5 second walk from all the shops and restaurants.

We have enjoyed Victoria Hotel as a place to stay in Melbourne for many years. During our nine night stay through 5-14 December we again found desk and cleaning staff both friendly and helpful. However, this time, VICBAR staff seemed a little standoffish and not particularly friendly. Usually we attend Happy Hour and meet our dinner guests at VICBAR but chose not to do so again after a bespectacled barman (5pm, Fri 8th Dec) appeared condescending and unhelpful. This barman had proven unhelpful on arrival (5th) but I let that pass. Other bar staff were OK but certainly did not appear to be happy or enjoying their work. We chose to go elsewhere for pre dinner drinks after this. Perhaps I happened upon them at bad times? Who knows. In any case, it was disappointing and I hope it is just a passing phase. Having said that, all in all, a good stay. Regards Dr Alan H / Room 3137.

Staff are very kind & welcoming. My original room was filled with exhaust smell from the restaurant but reception has kindly accommodated my request to change room. Am very grateful to them. Aircon is a bit loud but everything else is comfortable & clean. Perfect location right behind Melb Town Hall, 5 mins walk to Myer & 7 mins walk to Flinders St. Breakfast is quite ok with standard selections. Would recommend Mister Munro for dinner. Good menu & pricing for cbd restaurant.
