This is the type of hotel we love... A bit outdated but full of charm. Lady-in-command Tildy added to the charm of the hotel, especially when I offered my skills to fix her stubborn WiFi-system. (do not know if it still holds but who knows..). My wife and me stayed for 5 nights and enjoyed our stay in the Astor.... More

This is a unique place in central Hobart where you get very good value accommodation with a very personal and helpful touch added by Tildy , the manager. I am a bush walker who comes down to Tassie from Queensland and I would not consider any other option. It's close to everything , is reasonable in price and the place... More

Large gilded mirrors, richly decorated carpet, a heavy carved staircase, an old fashioned lift for luggage and decorative wood panels lend an almost Titanic feel to this charming hotel. And then there's Tildy to remind you that in the 21st century, if you're lucky enough, you can still encounter hospitality, true to its original intentions. For the visitor, this city... More

Oldy-worldy boutique hotel in central hobart, great location, just around the corner from salamanca place and walkable to local restaurants, and 5 minutes from car hire places. Has a lovely communitarian feel about it, thanks to the hotel manager, Tildy who sees that all is right! A bit noisy in the front room if you're a light sleeper, but a... More

The reviews on TA certainly swayed me to choose the Astor for our 2 night stay while driving around Tasmania in April. We were more than happy with our choice for many reasons. The location is sensational. Streets away from the Salamanca markets which meant an easy walk to restaurants at night as well. The markets are wonderful. Tildy, the... More

Very amazing place with old furniture & switches, but all still in perfect working condition. Step through the front door and the smell of home takes over you - excellent host Tildy ensures all your queries & needs are met (might even give a discount!) and mingles with guests every morning over breakfast, very charming personality. She's a little hard... More

Good value for money, Tildy is on the premises 24/7 to inform you of all there is to see in Hobart and the surrounds., Very close walk to everything. Make sure you go up to Mt. Wellington if it is a clear day - "Stunning view". She is always at breakfast each morning to greet her Guests, nice touch. My... More

We stayed 5 nights in a room with a double bed and shared ensuite. It was very clean and comfortable, and in an excellent location. The manager, Tildy, was very helpful and lots of fun. We highly recommend this unique hotel, and will definitely stay there if we visit Hobart again. More

I love a hotel with a bit of individuality. The Asor fits the bill. It's an old hotel with comfortable beds and comfortable dining area and a generous and cosy guest lounge. In Hobart to meet up with friends for a special celebration the Astor was great for a group of us to stay in and have the lounge to... More
