The exterior of the Welcome Stranger is an architectural nightmare BUT we found the interior and it's excellent staff -as it's name suggests-very welcoming on the inside. We were staying for 10 days at the Mantra apartments just across the road on the corner of Harrington and Davy Streets adjacent to the peaceful St Davids Park; a short walk down... More

Stayed here no that longer ago. The staff where very friendly and helpful. Private car park for my rental car and close to everything. Couple of mins walk from Salamanca and in to the mall for shopping. I would recommend this hotel and will come back for another stay.

I booked this place for one night because I was having trouble finding other available accommodation in Hobart. The price of the room was double what I paid for a similar room nearby for my other night in Hobart. I arrived after a late flight to a room which was completely disgusting. The bed appeared to have been slept in... More

Planned to stay 3 nights after doing the overland track and left after 1. Room had a horrible smell and we left the windows open over night. Woke up to smell of cigarette smoke due to a man smoking on the fire escape a metre from our window. Could only get 1 channel on the TV set. One thing in... More

At $99 per night I expected a little better. Room was small and noisy, with a very dated bathroom. Saving grace was comfortable bed and the fact that it was all reasonably clean. They do need to change the tatty blankets. When checking in we found staff to be extremely helpful. We were able to park our motorbike in the... More

We were pleasantly surprised (in some ways) by our stay at the Welcome Stranger. Looks like a bit of a dive from the outside with the dated red-brick and Tote signs but we found this place to be conveniently located and comfortable. The only let-down was that despite staying for four nights (between Christmas and new year) the room wasn't... More

It's a pub... The rooms are good if you remember that it is a pub. It has a good bar that is open late and good pool tables. The location is excellent and it is easy to get around. The rooms were OK and ours wasn't noisy. But I'm not sure about them all. I'd stay again. The best thing... More

Our stay at this hotel has caused us sleepless nights (2 nites)! Firstly, hotel is located on an uphill slope and on the corner of two main streets, i.e. Davey St & Harrington St - a very busy and a very noisy intersection in Hobart. Secondly, one of the glass panels on the main entrance was smashed and this hotel... More
