The Coober Pedy Comfort Inn was a highlight of our trip. Our two boys (10 & 8) loved staying under ground and exploring the passages, nooks and crannies of this fascinating motel that has been built out of the skeleton of an old opal mine. Once we got over the slightly strange sensation of being underground - pleasant temperatures (~23... More

We booked into the Comfort Inn for a 2 night stop-over, on our way to Darwin. I thought the kids would enjoy some time underground, especially when the temperatures were going to be around the 37 degree mark. They thoroughly enjoyed it and wanted to stay there for the rest of our month long holiday. Both of us adults also... More

I arrived in Coober Pedy by air from Adelaide having booked the Comfort Inn Coober Pedy Experience for one night. I had forgotten there where no taxis in Coober Pedy and I hadn't booked a hire car. The airport staff called Debbie at Comfort Inn and she came to the airport to collect me. Service #1. After showing me my... More

The beauty of living underground is shown in all its wonder in this Motel. Having the little history blurb in the folder was a great touch. Seeing the machine marks in the roof and walls was amazing. Despite having lived in the South Island of NZ during the Christchurch earthquakes, I had no issues staying the night underground. Having the... More

We arrived in Coober Pedy after dark with a baby and a long drive from Adelaide. The lonely road into town was littered with burnt out cars, and we were quite nervous, locking our car doors as we arrived in town. Once we found the Comfort Inn however, we breathed a big sigh of relief. It is away from the... More

If staying in Coober Pedy you should take the opportunity to stay in a cave hotel as this is. The facilities all work well and the room is well equipped. It is a little disconcerting due to no windows you have no idea what time it is. You are welcome to roam around the rest of the establishment which gives... More

The Comfort Inn in Coober Pedy is the most unique hotel I have ever seen or stayed in! All rooms are underground in an old transformed opal mine. The hallways are wide and furnished with lovely antique furniture and the rooms are very clean and comfortable, with a small kitchenette area with microwave and private bath with amenities to rival... this was such a fun place to stay. Our room had an airshaft over the bed, and under the shaft was an umbrella, opened up so it would catch any bits of dust (or opals!) that fell through.Next door to the motel is a church that the owners support and so they should. While digging space for new rooms, they... More

I have to say this was one of the most unusual places I've ever stayed in. Overall my experience was positive and I would have no hesitation in recommending this property. The owners are a bit eccentric - you'll find that is pretty normal out here - but they are totally hospitable with an understanding of service - not as... More

Was a great experience to stay underground and it is definitely something you need to do in Coober Pedy. Checking in, the lady at the desk who I believe also runs the whole place (family owned) was an absolute champion. She gave a quick tour of the place before showing us to our room and you get the feeling she... More
