This is an old fashioned place that is a little rough around the edges, but it has charm. Maggie, the owner could not be more helpful. It's about a 20 minute walk into town, along a lovely esplanade. The price is inexpensive for Cairnes.

We spent 2 nights at Maggie's guest house in the large room. What a lot of space! Bedroom, livingroom/kitchen combined, long windowseat facing the ocean, and front and back porches. Effective air con and multiple ceiling fans ensure you'll sleep comfortably. Walk to town along the waterfront, it's beautiful, reminded me of pieces of Waikiki.
Maggie gave us two solid...

I stayed at the geust house for 2 weeks and enjoyed my stay. It is located on the esplanade directly opposite the park and waterfront. There is 2 staff Maggie who runs the desk and Graham who does cleaning, yard and all the odd jobs. Initially my son and i stayed upstairs which is a lovely room with waterfront views....

I read other reviews and while I understand where they're coming from, I found them harsh. We stayed for four nights and thought we got what we paid for (knowing that we didn't pay very much). Our room was clean upon arrival - yes it is decorated out of the '70's, but that's clear from the website or a walk...

I'm not sure what those negative reviews are about as we found this place refreshingly down to earth, cosy, and charming. The balcony with views over the sea a d warm wind blowing is magic when coming from a southern winter. We found the hosts helpful and easy going, and the price is very reasonable indeed. Highly recommended if you...

this place is run down, maggy (the owner) wont climb the stairs unless its an emergency.
we had urine soaked cushions, she made us throw down the stairs for her, there was lots of mould, a dirty t-shirt in my daughters bed, obviously not changed from the last occupant.
my 12yr old daughter had to clean the pool so she...

Maybe Floriana was been a good place to stay, thinking at the good review on Lonely Planet or other guide.
Now is a place cheap and vary basic, with no place for clinliness. The room is full of dust but with no amenities (neither soap or coffee).
It's positionated on esplanade of Cairns, far 20minute walk from the pier.
I...

I am delighted, refreshed and in love with Cairns and Floriana Guesthouse. I was recovering from a severe illness and I found it so restful and quiet, I’m sure I was healed there. The walks along the Esplanade and the wonderful trees, the view, sitting on the little timber seats, were just as much entertainment as I needed. I met...

I came over from Brisbane end of July 2008 and stayed in Cairns for one month. I was looking for a very cheap place to stay, because I knew I would spend most of the time on a liveaboard and that was what Maggy saw straight away.
I had no reservation, just went there and I have to say Maggy...

Like other people who've written reviews about the Floriana, we stayed here because it was the Lonely Planet 'our pick'. How? Why? What was the writer thinking?
This was, without doubt, the worst place I have stayed in during my travels of the last ten years. I can't warn you enough not to stay here.
We stayed here as it...
