Calypso staff are super friendly and the facilties here are good but overall the hostel is run down. I guess this adds to the charm of it all and I enjoyed staying here. Great location and atmosphere with evening activities/entertainment which can go on till late. Shared bathroom/washrooms are clean but rooms not the best we've stayed in (rather small and no facilities inside). For price we paid we can't really complain and felt very safe. More

This was the first hostel I have ever stayed in and I loved it! I ended up staying in cleaner hostels with more amenities but Calypso holds some of the best memories! I read a number of reviews prior to going and the common complaint seemed to be that it was 20 minutes to town. Given that they run a shuttle to and from the town almost hourly it was never a problem. If you do decide to walk it is actually less than 20 minutes and it was a pleasant walk... More

stayed for 5 days in june 2010 no complaints, cheapest hostel we stayed in whilst in aus! 10 minute walk to city centre - all flat, also did a quiz night at the hostel. Also free shuttle bus into the centre. Overall my stay here was good! - No Complaints More
