I stayed here for a couple of nights in march and it was just a bit strange. The staff were helpful and the place was clean enough but the people it attracts were all quite weird, mainly either drunk or drugged. It's in quite a good location but equally I wouldn't choose to stay in kings cross again. Average place... More

I decided that I didn't want to stay in one of the big chain hostels while I was travelling Australia. I must say I wasn't disappointed. The approach in this small, cozy, shabby maybe a wee bit dirty hostel is personal and feels like some sort of extended family. Because it's small you make a lot of friends easily and... More

The hostel is dirty and shabby. We got bitten to pieces by mosquitos in the bedroom and the living room so make sure to wear lots of bug spray here! If you check out and don't have to catch a bus/train/plane until 5pm the owner charges $5 for you to 'use to facilities' for the day. This is the only... More

We were a bit dubious about staying here as we are not "hostel people", however we were pleasantly surprised! All the staff were helpful and very friendly. One of the lads even stopped the traffic so I could reverse down the street to park. The bathroom was amazingly clean. I didnt feel the need to wear flip flops in the... More

We booked and paid for two nights but left after the first night. It was clearly a hostel that was predominantly long stay/working travellers as it had a very lived in (its our own dirt so its fine) sense about it. One of the things that annoyed me the most was that they only accepted cash and even made me... More

The hostel is central to Kings Cross, the people are friendly with many "long-timers" who've been there for many months. It's cheap, no frills. The bathrooms are clean and there is a kitchen available for anyone to use. The people working are super friendly and organize outings for people every night.

Anthony, the manager, is the ultimate host. The hostel is tucked away behind the Holiday Inn in Kings Cross, near everything.

I've stayed at the Asylum for 1 whole week during my stay in Sydney. This place is always filled with fun people to be with, if you are traveling alone, there is no way that you can be lonely here. Cheap bed, great location (minutes from train station, supermarket, eatery, entertainment), free internet and breakfast, what more you can ask... More

We stayed at asylum 4 nights and overall it was a quiet bad stay. We slept in a 6 bed dorm with two other girls an two boys. At night it was very loud, we couldn't close our door because it made a lot of sound when you opened it. We were afraid of our belongings and slept were bad!... More

I stayed at the Asylum in Cairns and this one in Sydney. They are both so much fun! If you are looking for a super cheap bed and a fun, party atmosphere then stay here. You will meet so many new friends! www.asylumhostelsydney.com
