The lodge has a number of separate cabins, each which of which have quite a bit of space around them and so feel very peaceful. The cabins are simple but comfortable and are well equipped with things visitors might need such as glasses, candles, mosquito coils, etc. The staff were, without fail, lovely, welcoming and helpful. One comment I have... More

Comments about the property as well as the concern shown for the "Eco" qualification are highly appreciated. Since Sri Lanka generates electricity largely by burning diesel oil, we do our utmost to use alternative methods. Geezers consume a lot of electricity and solar panels need a lot of sun-light which requires cutting-down large branches periodically or whole trees altogether which... More

We stayed 3 nights at Polwaththa in cabin #1 and were inspired by Nihal and Nell's vision of sustainable tourism. They are working hard at making the smallest footprint possible on the environment. Polwaththa is comprised of 5 free standing cabins with ensuite facillities all nestled into the forest, each with its own special view from the balcony. Watching the... More

We loved Polwaththa Eco Lodges and wished we could have stayed longer. Situated just outside Kandy, in primary forest with views of the Knuckles Range. Nihal and Nell have somehow created an excellent balance of comfort and hospitality while sympathetically working with nature, the environment and the local community. Polwaththa is up a steep, partially un-made track (they will collect... More

More then we expected. We literality had eight hours to book flights and arrange accommodation in Sri Lanka. Our only requirement was we wanted to stay at an Eco Lodge. In a matter of a couple of hours Polwaththa had got back to us. We took the observation train (1st class) from Colombo which was a 3hr journey through the... More

Stayed a weekend at the Polwaththa Eco Lodges with friends. The lodges were surrounded by lush vegetation and were clean and comfortable The food was excellent and the staff friendly and helpful. We went to sleep to the sound of the rain and woke up to the sounds of birds chirping and the barking deer. We saw many diifferent birds,... More

I stayed for three nights. It was an amazing experience. Many dogs, cats and chicken running around. To wake up in the morning with the sunset coming through my window was so relaxing. The staff brought me hot water for tea or coffee before I went to have my breakfast. The food was fantastic, curry's made to ones taste (spicy... More

Absolutely amazing - the best 3 nights we had in Sri Lanka! Fantastic hosts and spectacular surroundings and back to nature in every way. Bit of background: the lodges are run by Nihal, a Sri Lankan and his wife, Nel, who is Dutch. This is a community project so the lodges have been built by members of the local village... More
