Modern accommodation in a village inn which also boasts well looked after ales and a selection of home cooked (and in some cases home grown) food. Individually cooked breakfast with fresh eggs from the chickens in the garden (the pub also boasts its own vegetable garden) was superb.

I came across Lord Lyon through the tripadvisor reviews as I was looking for a place to stay in Newbury during the week for work. What appealed to me was the friendly feel of the place, good accommodation and value for money and I have to say, my expectations have been exceeded. The rooms are really high quality as I... More

I liked the waiters kind people. The steak was very good but the carrots, green beans were a bland and bit too hard for me. The pudding was not very flavoursome, The mixed fruit was missing, could not taste any blackberries all I could taste was apple. The crumble topping was flavourless and not brown at all. The service was slow.

My wife and I stayed there on 31st October. The room was extremely comfortable with a great bathroom and a splendid waterfall shower. The food is excellent. The vegetable were home grown and very tasty and the chicken pie was beautifully seasoned. The servings were generous and staff are lovely. Breakfast was so good that we weren't hungry at lunchtime!... More

Stayed at the Lord Lyon 16th-18th October. Great welcome on arrival from the staff - they came out to meet me! I stayed in a single room. Nice clean room with good (huge) shower/bathroom, tv and wifi, v.comfortable bed. Very quiet. Tea/Coffee/kettle in room(+nice biscuit!). Great ambience - main room/bar warm and welcoming - they had a lovely old wood... More

Our family group of seven were very pleased with our first visit to the Lord Lyon tonight (16 Dec 2011) The food and service were very good, especially the fish and chips and the slow cooked lamb shank. The prices were average for pub food. The seating is rather cramped and beware the small steps on the way in!
