The hotel was a welcome respite from anywhere crowded in Norway. It felt like we had the place to ourselves in June. (Except for the cruise ship tours that stop by for tea. Fortunately they don't stay long. I'm sure that's how the hotel owners are primarily making a living, because we were there two nights and there were only... More

The hotel is really nice with beautiful view of the mountains from the room. Great breakfast with traditional Norwegian food. The surroundings are fantastic, I've seen the most remarkable fog there. If you want to hide from everything, to enjoy being in peace and calm- this is the place for you. It's a nice, not long walk to the train... More

Vatnahalsen Høyfjellshotel is surely a gem “hidden” way up in the Norwegian mountain on the Hardangervidda (The Hardanger Plateau). The easiest (only) way to go there at this time of the year (November) is to take the train to Myrdal Station. From the station it is an easy 1,5 kilometer walk to reach the hotel. For those who do not... More

We stayed here overnight in order to break up the Norway in a Nutshell tour into slightly more manageable chunks since we were traveling with a 1 year old. In point of fact, our booking here was an accident, we *thought* we were staying at the Stalheim hotel. So when we realized our error we were a little nervous, but... More

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Vatnahalsen. The fact that you can have a hotel in such a beautiful and isolated location at all is something really worth appreciating. The staff were friendly and very welcoming. There were few people staying overnight when we were there in July but when the first train arrived in the morning... More

Stayed here one night as a part of a Norway tour package. The location is pretty much unbeatable. You can open the window and hear a big waterfall instead of cars. Gotta love that. Great staff and food (dinner/breakfast) as well. Hope to be back!

Stayed in this hotel for one night whilst travelling round Norway. We walked from Myrdal station rather than getting the train, and although quite hilly, the views more than made up for the legwork The hotel itself was lovely. The rooms are big and have a sofa and an armchair and a TV. The bathroom was fairly average, but was... More

The rooms are adequate with no frills and after biking the Rallervegen trail they provided all that was needed. The food was very good, albeit there was only a small choice (fish or meat) to choose from. The veg and deserts were fine and the breakfast too was good enough. I would recommend the hotel to anyone doing the Rallervegen... More

My children (12,14) and I liked this charming hotel near Myrdal. Yes it is a little bit old fashioned but the room was OK and the view was nice. Meals (dinner buffet and breakfast) were very good. Value for money was very good too (to Norwegian standards, and I got a 50% discount for both children). We did arrive in... More

This a small hotel near Myrdal. It was a famous hotel for taking medical treatments, burnt down in the war, rebuilt again, arguably it's had its hay day. I choose this hotel to break the train journey from Oslo before taking the famous and fabulous Falm railway. The disadvantage is that to get to it, you must take the Flam... More
