Stayed at The Griffin for 2 nights at the end of March with my wife. The room was a good size and well equipped with everyhting you'd expect (TV, Hair Dryer etc) with plenty of wardrobe space. Once we had unpacked we decided to have a meal from the Bar Menu, washed down with a pint. The standard of food... More

Booked a table for four for my wife and I and our friends. Saw the menu on the website and having been before expected no problem ordering vegetarian for my wife and I. How wrong we were. No vegetarian option in the main menu and hardly anything on the bar menu. The staff agreed that there was little vegetarian on... More

Called in for lunch at The Griffin and it was very pleasant indeed. Nice friendly staff and the sort of food you used to get in pubs years ago before they were invaded by "chains" serving pre packed and sealed junk. The food was "real" food for local suppliers and the chef had prepared it especially for us rather than... More

We live nearby yet it took us nearly 6 years to try this place and when we did we couldn't believe how good it is and within walking distance too - now we go regularly for a treat! Sunday dinners are very good value, but be warned it gets busy so book in advance. In the evenings (Mon to Sat)... More

We have stayed here numerous times over the years when visiting family and freinds in the St Helens area and have never been disappointed since day one. A few mins drive will see you in St helens town centre or Liverpool in under 30 mins Over the years the rooms have all been refurbished and fitted out to a high... More

We had all the rooms booked for wedding accommodation and would highly recommend The Griffin for atmosphere, friendliness, food and accommodation. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff even though the place is very busy as both pub and restaurant the staff did everything they could to make our stay exceptional. The staff quite often make a place and... More

The Griffin is a large 19th century sandstone pub in a pleasant location on the outskirts of StHelens. The bars are clean and attractive and the draught beers tasty and well priced. The food seems to be very well priced although we didnt eat there. We stayed one night in a very comfortable room with ensuite. The decor and linens... More

We just happened to turn up one Sunday afternoon without booking, they fitted us in a table for two with no problems....very hospitable. My wife and I had prawn cocktail for starters......gorgeous!... followed by a traditional Sunday lunch of Roast beef. Can't fault the food or drinks, and the service was very good. Polite and courteous, very good value for... More
