We really enjoyed our stay at Carrigeen Castle. The location was perfect: about a half block from Cahir Castle, town center, and the scenic river walk to the famous Swiss Cottage. The castle itself is beautiful, and the dining room is tastefully decorated with antiques. Since even the interior walls are over a foot thick, we were guaranteed good nights'... More

Two of our party had stayed at this location 14 years before and enjoyed the hospitality offered so much that we returned with two friends. We stayed for three nights in the converted cells and had a ball. Peig was a bundle of information and a very welcoming hostess with tea or coffee and biscuits offered on arrival. The location... My daughter and I had a wonderful experience staying at the Carrigeen Castle. When I called David to tell him we would be a bit later than expected, he said that was no problem. When we arrived we were greeted by Peg and shown our room. It was spacious and very clean. We visited with Peg about the hi-lights in... More

Not worth it! The outside of the building is cool and looks like a castle. It was actually the prison associated with the main castle. Inside it is very much a normal building- nothing that says “castle”. The beds are perfectly comfortable and the breakfast is good. It was clean. But the owner was really unpleasant. We got in an... this is the one to book. Within walking distance of town & sits on a hill with an awesome approach up the driveway. Really, it's a true medieval castle in excellent condition. Peg Butler the owner greeted us, was very informative & delightful. She runs a very tight "ship" & it shows. The rooms are immaculate & well appointed. There's... More

The Carrigeen Castle is unique for a B&B with the look of a castle outside and inside. Our room was comfortable and clean though sparsely decorated. The bathroom is modern. The remainder of the castle is nicely decorated. The breakfast is served in a large room and the tables are beautifully set. The protein laden breakfast included two eggs, four... More

Thank you, indeed, for taking the time to write such a nice, succinct, review of our home. We are glad that the prison castle feel was experienced, and particularly appreciate your 5star location and service reviews, and your 4star rooms, cleanliness and value feedback. The detailed recall concerning the layout, content and presentation of breakfast, the time spent conversing and... More

We are an older married couple who traveled throughout Ireland for two weeks in August 2011, and Carrigeen "Castle" was the low point of our trip. First of all, Carrigeen "Castle" is not a castle. It was a jail (and still is) with a turret that makes it look like a castle. The property was well kept and the interior... More

We particularly appreciate your notice of the 5star cleanliness of our home, and its good value for money. Perhaps your party made a late booking, but our website and historical leaflet which you would have received on check-in all detail the history of our prison castle home. We are delighted that you found the property was well kept and the... More

We traveled via motorcycle around the countries of Ireland and Scotland for 18 days in the month of June. Our Irish friends thought our experience would be enhanced by staying one night in a castle. Lucky for us they chose the Carrigeen Castle. Immediately we were impressed by the impeccable cleanliness of the entire place. We found Peg to be... More

How nice of you to take the time to post some feedback of your stay with us. We particularly appreciate your impression of the "impeccable cleanliness of the entire place." The comment "We found Peg to be very friendly, no nonsense, and welcoming" was best of all - that is how we are and, 35 years of B&B business on,... More

Having read the other reviews, I was expecting an interesting stay with questionable hosts. This was definitely not the case. The hosts were very friendly, animated, and charming. We enjoyed talking to them and listening to their suggestions (though some of them seemed off the wall). The castle is perfect! The rooms and bathrooms are modernised, but it still has... More

Thank you very much indeed for your most positive review, with five stars across the board - for value, cleanliness, service and service. It isn't often that such a satisfied customer takes the time to write a review and we appreciate all you said. Absolutely, the history of the prison castle is there on the website, the leaflets, everywhere. One... More

As other has written before us, we thought it was a wonderful idea to spent a night in the castle. That before we discovered that it was haunted by Mrs. Peig and son. We were rejected by the son because we arrived too early (16.00) and he was busy with a meeting (???) . OK, no problem….we spent some time... More

It does, indeed, take some time to navigate through this piece of prose, and I have pleasure in summarising our reply as follows: 1) This party of three persons specifically requested an 8pm later check-in, and there was no question of an early arrival, as there was much sightseeing to do at Kilkenny, Cashel and Cahir. In the event, they... More
