We had Sunday lunch at the Coledale Inn, Braithwaite in April 2012. The staff were very warm & welcoming - even though our party struggled to choose from the extensive menu, and had several changes of minds. In the end we opted for two x roast pork with all the trimmings and two x steak pie. The food was excellent... More

Thank you Coledale for a lovely stay the night before my wedding, the staff were all very friendly and helpful, meals were lovely and the issue of some a couple of meals being delayed was dealt with in a nice manor from the Bar man. The night before a lot of us dined and all enjoyed the food. Breakfast looked... More

What can I say about the Coledale Inn? I have been visiting Braithwaite regularly since 1969. I have dined at the Coledale since the mid 80s and have stayed there since February 1993. During this time the hotel has been owned by the Mawdsley family who have, over the years, modernised and upgraded all the facilities. I have always found... More

Just returned from another weekend and the place is just as good quality and welcoming. Spotless rooms, excellent beer and food but best of all great staff. Handy for Keswick but just 30 mins from Ambleside (out of season!) we took in a film at Zefferellis and still got back for dinner. Great location as you are just out the... More

We've visited lots of times over the years and decided this year to spend New Year at the Coledale Inn. We had a great time. The bar is nice and comfortable and at times we felt the odd ones out as we didn't have a dog with us! Although it has to be said that the place doesn't smell of... More

After a bad experience in another pub within 5 minutes walk of The Coledale Inn, we weren't expecting things to get better. We were pleasantly surprised by the difference in hospitality. The pub decor is very basic, rustic and a little shabby in places, but it had a welcoming open fireplace and a relaxed feel to it. We were staying... More

Dear All, Thank you for your comments. The Coledale has long been the choice of walkers, dog lovers, beer drinkers and easy going holiday-makers. We are hopefully appealing to this market. We serve large portions of pub food at reasonable prices and a great variety of local ales in a clean and welcoming environment. Every year, for as long as... More

We have been going for a long weekend in the Lake District every autumn for 8 years. The Coledale The Hotel is larger than some we have stayed in. It seems to be a little stuck in the 70s as regards decor. It feels tired. Neither smart nor 'homely'. The staff were friendly but I am afraid I thought the... More

This used to be a real 'oldy worldy pub', with pleasent staff...now it has managers who don't manage and waitresses who don't wait! (they stand behind the bar more than anything...strapless tops are not appropriate nor are ripped trousers!...) Not great for rooms either. Only good thing was location! More
