Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I had a long drive from the Netherlands to Denmark and needed a stopover on the way. And I didn’t regret this booking. The apartments seemed newly renovated and it was a lovely stay here. Nice rooms. Greats size and a good bed. I can only recommend

Hotel Meyn - our home away from home when in Soltau. Hotel Meyn may not enchant today's discerning and "high maintenance", traveler, but it still remains as the "number one address" of Soltau. This hotel continues to offer a refreshingly simple, no frills, "old fashioned" place to stay with it's worn, tired and aging (sleeping) accommodations. Nevertheless, its ambiance exudes a warm & welcoming charm and a kind of "past time" style of lodging with half board packages that are refreshingly "pocketbook" friendly. Clean, spacious and functionally furnished double rooms - mattresses in need of updating - with sufficiently sized and equipped ensuite bathrooms. Hotel Meyn offers a European style breakfast buffet with a good variety of basic food selections. Half board pricing includes breakfast buffet and tasty 3 course dinner selections that do not disappoint. Service staff has always been attentive and responsive to personal needs. In a "nutshell" - this is an "oldie but goodie" hotel that brings back memories of the past and still remains a place that brings - to the guest - a level of hospitality that is true.

The town of Soltau is probably not a hot destination for tourists. Especially ones from the UK. In fact, you would bypass the place and probably head to Hannover or Hamburg. However, for me it was a blast from the past. After 27 years I returned to Soltau to visit the town where I was based in the Army all those years ago. With limited Hotel choice I opted for the Hotel Meyn. Chosen for its central location, proximity to the station and it had rooms big enough for my two adult sons that were tagging along. This hotel is very much part of the town and it was in existence all those years ago, and probably hadn’t changed much at all! It provides some charm of the past and bows its head briefly to modern times courtesy of a flat screen TV and free Wi-Fi. The room was large if a little too ‘beige ‘in colour with comfortable beds. The bathroom was practical with a good shower. The spread at breakfast excelled at providing a showcase of what German hospitality is. Meats, cereal, yoghurts, bread and so on. In summary, you would be foolish to stay here and expect a modern hotel experience. It would also be unfair to mark the hotel down due to its feet placed firmly in the past. I did after all do my research beforehand so had a good idea of what to expect. Any doubts of staying should be laid to rest by the polite and courteous service along with a clean and efficiently run establishment. Thank you Hotel Meyn for a lovely night stay. With so much potential I just wonder what the place will be like in another 27 years!

Absolutely worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Unfortunately I had no choice but to stay here because I was travelling with a group. Rooms were worn and extremely hot. Staff was unfriendly. A member of our group has an unpleasant surprise of bunch of insects in his bed (don't know what they were, nothing you want to share your bed with anyway).

We had a really bad stay at Hotel Meyn in Soltau. When we arrived, and showed the reservation papers, the woman in the reception seemed rejecting. My father communicated the best he could, since the woman insisted on not speaking English, even though we heard her speaking English later that evening. We had to call the agency that we booked the hotel through, and they had to talk to her twice, before she accepted that it was their own mistanke. So we got two seperate rooms, instead of the double that we had booked. This was in the guest house on the other side of the road, under the roof, with bad isolation and no WiFi, which we depended on for business. Both rooms were cold and the wind were coming right through the walls and windows. There was a small radio in the wall, with a motor build in, that hummed through the night - even though the radio didn't work. The food was dry and boring, the staff was cold and unfriendly. My father slept for two hours, and described the stay at Hotel Meyn as the worst hotel stay ever - this coming from a man who has traveled across USA several times, and has been a roadie in Europe for decades. We are not the picky types. Can tolerate most things if the bed is warm, and the people are friendly. This is not the case at Hotel Meyn. We had already paid for two nights, but decided to find another hotel.

Not really much to say about this hotel, pretty average. Old fashioned, but had the basics that a person needed.Wifi worked fine. The bed looked clean. Parking in the back was easy and free. Our room faced the main street, and it did have traffic noise, so you may want to ask for one facing another direction. The location is convenient for walking around downtown Soltau. We ate dinner at the restaurant, the food was OK, but the menu not as big as I remembered from a stay several years ago. Breakfast just average.

NOT a good hotel. Do not stay here. Arrived after 11pm & it took quite a while for someone to answer the door. The car-park at the back was locked & the night-porter would not open it so we could park our rental car & we had to park it on the main town road outside. There was no tea/coffee making facilities in the room and the staff would not provide any. The rooms were clean, very old fashioned. We were given heaters for our rooms as both of us complained that we were cold. The ensuite window had a broken lock & as there was a shared balcony outside it, I was very uncomfortable about this.
