Houlgate, though close to Caen, is east of it and is therefore saved from overnighting Brits migrating south. It has charm and some residential architectural gems from 3rd Empire/Fin de Siecle. And this small quirky but delightful hotel/restuarant is it's star. Great welcome, facinating decor and excellent food. Will keep going back. More

They misbooked our reservation and we landed 4 (2 kids and us) in a room for two. Hence could have been a nightmare especialy with the typicall normand weather.. Yet was fine due to excellent service and delicious breakfast (very much above French standards). We specialy recommend a dinner as it realy is gastronomic and a good price/quality ratio. rooms... Not much to pick from in Houlgate, but this place is a hidden gem. Room was small, but clean and well kept. More

We stayed in the only room downstairs facing the patio. It was great for us. No stairs: hub is 82. With a dog it was great for access. Quiet after 11pm and before 9am. Nice, smallish bathroom. big, firm beds, TV, a table, an ancient wardrobe. Very specially nice. The breakfast had all the usual stuff plus Normand specialities: tergoule,... More
