After driving through Normandy for the day we were looking forward to a comfy bed and a cosy room, with Balzac hotel we got both.
Although the rooms are tiny they are great value for money and all you need if you are just passing through. The bed was comfy, the room cosy, warm, clean and tidy. Although I was...

We were very fortunate to find this charming town and hotel on our way from the Loire Valley to Mont St. Michel. We wanted to be close to Mont St. Michel to get an early start and this was the perfect spot. Easy 45 minute drive. Laurence and Bernard are the new owners of Balzac Hotel and were great hosts....

Fougères is a very old town, and as such was not designed for cars, and the hotel is right in the interesting part of town and is necessarily small and old. Within those restrictions, the Balzac Hotel was as much as you could hope for - comfortable and friendly, but also cramped. As one other reviewer mentioned, the oldest belfry...

This is a very pleasant little hotel, a typical 2 star town centre hotel in France. The location is convenient for the old town of Fougères with one critical reservation. Our room was compact but clean and bright and the hotel proprietor was friendly and helpful and served a good breakfast. Sadly I slept very little all night because of...

We stayed at The Balzac Hotel in Fougères. What strikes you first is the excellent central location and the outside appearance of the hotel is great. You’re met by the owner of the hotel, a very charming and friendly lady who speaks excellent English and is warm and welcoming. The rooms are small but adequate. It’s not the cleanest hotel...

We booked on the internet, on the basis of TripAdvisor reports, through them and Booking.com. We were not disappointed.
We parked in a free car park in town and found the hotel and booked in. The Saturday market was in progress but the receptionist lady put chairs out when it finished so we could park right outside the hotel.
She...

Had an overnight stop at this hotel on our way north to the ferry. Ideal location for the centre of the town and the medieval section of town, down by the river. Lovely exterior facade and well maintained in the areas we saw. The lady was always available on reception and gave us useful information. Good value, would recommend

We made Fougeres our intermediate stop between Quimper and Paris and were impressed not only with the hotel but the town. The Balzac is run by a wonderful helpful woman, Danielle, who went out of her way to help with "finding" French family members throughout the region on her computer. The breakfast was great, the rooms simple and comfortable and...

We stayed in this hotel on our way to the Vendee. We wanted to see the Chateau at Fougeres. The hotel was typically French and charming. Excellent value for money and far nicer than staying in one of the modern chains. The breakfast was excellent. There was free public parking nearby although no parking at the hotel. It was very...
