i had to stay here on a saturday night as the hotel i was staying in was fully booked for the saturday night due to a wedding. So with heavy heart i packed my bags and left my beautiful oasis and moved a couple of miles down the road. Howard Arms is a pub and the rooms are cheap, as... More

The hotel is located right in the centre of the town which was a good start. On arrival they did not have my reservation, it took an age to check in. Went to the room to find the window wide open, good for fresh air not so good on a cold evening. The twin room did not have a desk... More

Had a lovely meal, can't remember just what it was called. Chicken with black pudding and mash, just lovely. The older Gentelman who served us was straight out of Downton Abbey Excellent.

I stayed three nights at the hotel and really enjoyed the experience. All the rooms are named after Charles Dickens characters and I was in Tiny Tim's room, the decor was excellent although it was it bit noise as it was right above the bar. There is wi-fi coverage in the hotel but unfortunately it doesn't reach the bedrooms. The... More

We stayed at the Howard Arms whilst cycling the Hadrian's Wall Cycleway. Our bikes were stored in the beer cellar (but the hotel management declined our request to sleep in the beer cellar with our bikes!) Charles Dickens apparently slept here and the rooms are named after Dickens' characters. Apart from a broken bedside light, which should have been removed,... More

We took a taxi from the wall after a very long days walk, and asked to be taken to a pub that served food. We arrived at the Howard Arms hotel. We walked into a quite and cosy pub, a handful of people in there and ordered our drinks from a guy behind the bar and immediately asked if they... More

Only stayed for one night - the room was very comfortable with fruit, bottled water, tea coffee & hot chocolate provided. Very well decorated, excellent shower, comfortable and very warm. On the downside some of the staff don't speak English very well and it can be noisy if they have entertainment on - unfortunately the night we stayed they had... More

Stayed here with family on a Saturday night in January. Had a double and twin room on the top floor which were cold when we arrived despite our phoning to say when we were arriving. Manager seemed harrassed and the girl who showed us to rooms didn't know her way around. We turned on our radiators before going out hoping... More

My husband and I stayed here on October 15, 2011 and there is not one bad thing we can say about this hotel! We were just making our way North and stopped in looking for a room for the night and this hotel was exactly the right price! It's a definite value for the money and the rooms were clean... More
