Just back from a 2nd visit to The Cross. Last time we visited with friends and got a taxi back home but this time we stopped for the night on the way back from Edinburgh. Couldn't really have been much better. The food was fantastic and we left the wine choice to Katy who recommended two organic wines - one... More

My wife and I went for our first wedding anniversary and oils not have been better looked after! The room was ample sized with a massive, very comfy bed and relaxing sounds of the river outside. The highlight however was the food and wine! We have eaten in one and two Michelin star restaurants and were not disappointed by the... More

A last minuite booking made by friends for a party of 9. We only stayed 1 night thank goodness, this is not a 4* hotel the food was ok but not worth a set price of £50! The rooms are basic & need a face lift. The staff are the most bossyest people I have met it was like being... More

As we all do and having read other reviews it would be easy to follow a thread about room quality versus dining experience BUT as an overall impression The Cross delivers everything for the price paid , once you get to know it. Outstanding food , not the same food, a daily changing menu that was served impeccably , comfortable... More

Just stayed at this little gem hidden in a mini glen at the edge of Kingussie. You go up the brae and nearly at the top turn left down into a mini glen with the mill at the bottom alongside a beautiful burn. Although in the midst of housing etc it is completely hidden and all that kept buzzing in... More

Owner and staff offer warm friendly welcome and service. However this is not a four star hotel, rooms and common areas all very tired with very poor insulation, noise travelling up through the floor and adjoining rooms. Restaurant food not five star although it does have an extensive wine list. More

We spent a really enjoyable night at the Cross earlier this month. The food, the terrace, the ambiance, the staff were all of high quality and we left feeling relaxed and wishing we could have stayed longer. The food was truly lovely with complementary flavours creating a culinary delight. And then there's the wine.....! More

The Cross sells itself as a restaurant with rooms - which is rather pretentious and meaningless - because you have to pay for the rooms – they're not giving them away free of charge! Our room was directly above the kitchen, and although we were warned about this when we booked, the noise was more than they described. I didn't... More

A hidden gem. We took fiends for a special treat and were not disappointed. Very attentive service, fabulous meal, amazing wine list....a must if you are in the area or worth a special trip. More

Food was very good, but not outstanding. £50 per head was a little overpriced - £40 would have been more reasonable. Restaurant staff efficient and knowledgeable about the food but the decor was uninspired. Room was clean and neutral. Cheap furniture and fittings, paper thin walls (we could hear telephone calls in room next door), basic bathroom with no shower... More
