As the title suggests Thai hotel is not the best, it's probably the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. However saying that it was ok for what I needed it for which was a place to fall whilst I was drunk The hotels upkeep is really poor so unless you are here for a stag and will be sleeping in... More

Booked for 3 nights in early May. Our room was fine with good sea views. My father's room had a great view of a wall!! 1st night (Wednesday) was fine and we had a good breakfast. Second night we were kept awake til 4 by the extreme noise from the night club under the hotel. The night receptionist tried to... More

This comment is the most untruthful I have ever read. Two Senior membersof staff had contacted me by telephone, to explain a female guest was shouting, swearing, abusive towards the receptionist. The receptionist had to 'walk away' as no matter what the member of staff correctly informed you, nothing was unacceptable. I spoke to your husband for approximately 5 minutes,... More

at first sight the hotel is nice, great location, parking was a extra bonus, then we entered the hotel! bad mannered, unhelpful receptionist, filthy rooms with the previous guests leftovers still in draws, dirty shower, dirty windows, no handle on 1 window so couldnt close it, which wasn't great when you had to sleep with the din of 'DEEP' nightclub!... If your staying here in the hope you will get some sleep - DONT! Screaming louts outside until 4am, incredibly noisy nightclub directly below, and incredibly old and rancid mattresses with the springs poking through. This place certainly would certainly never achieve an official hotel grading.

Arrived at the rex for a stag weekend, first impressions where nice location, right on the seafront. Got told my room was on the 3rd floor and i found it no problem also noticed the heating was broken but said " oh well it's only for sleeping in ". There is a nightclub underneath the hotel which to be honest... More

We stayed here in April 2012. I had read some terrible reviews of this hotel, mainly regarding the cleanliness of the place, and the attitude of the lady on reception. As I walked into the lobby/reception, the receptionist was arguing with a group of men. I have no idea what the disagreement was about, but it is not very welcoming... More

On the upside, the Rex is situated right on the sea front of Whitley Bay, has great views across the beach to St Marys Island lighthouse and is a lovely old building with an architecturally interesting staircase up the middle...but afraid that's where it ends! SO.. my 3 day started with "Mr Humphries, you're with us for 1 night? Actually... More

Receptionist, exceptionally appaulining attitude. Broken tap. NO HOT Water!!! 'Hotel under refurbishment', great excuse to justify s**t hole! Night club noise heard on 2nd floor. Breakfast ok. Suggest lick of paint, soundproof nightclub and sack your receptionist... she's doing you no favours!!!

Read all other reviews thinking it was going to be devasting. but was not as reviews made out. Good for nights out with groups of friends or contractors. not for a loving weekend away. although if retro hotels is your thing go for it.
