First rate B&B we used on a business trip to the NE. Situated on the top of a hill with a short walk to the centre of the old city with many pubs and bars nearby. Warm welcome. Good breakfast with home-made bread. Very nice, too.

Back from our 4th short break at Cathedral View - first stayed in 2010 and it just gets better and better! Superb breakfast - with a remarkable choice available. Superb location within easy walking distance of the Cathedral. Jim and Karen make every visit a pleasure! We'll be back!

Dear Malcolm and Miriam We thank you for your generous review and hope to see you again when you are here to see Somerset play Durham. You certainly chose the first day wisely to get the best of the weather - what a shame the rain resulted in a draw! Best wishes Karen & Jim More

Our second stay. Super room and bathroom. In our experience, Cathedral View serves the best breakfast selection and quality in over 30 years of staying in hotels and B & Bs. View from the dining room to the cathedral is breathtaking. Very welcoming and helpful proprietors, Jim and Karen make you feel like you are a welcome friend. Order breakfast... More

We stayed 3 nights for my husband's birthday. The building is charming, slightly creaky (to be expected) and surprisingly light and airy, with pleasing decor. Our room was clean and the shower room spacious, and the bed linen of high quality, with plenty of pillows, two armchairs, coffee table and suitcase stand. We agree with another reviewer that the bed... More

Dear Wendy and Robert Thank you - we're pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. We endeavour to be as flexible as possible with arrival times and always arrange our appointments and errands around guests requirements. As our business is mainly just the two of us, we cannot be here all of the time so we simply ask that... More

A warm welcome, sherry in the lounge, well-furnished room - the best &B we've stayed at in Durham. We particularly liked the well-decorated and equipped bathroom (we like showers). The hot breakfast defeated us (not our thing), but loved the fresh fruit salad with berries. Also appreciated the quietness, given the proximity to central Durham.

Stayed three nights with wife and mum. Agree with previous comments. Immaculate bedrooms. Excellent breakfasts - Kipper & scrambled egg was perfect. Only 5 mins walk to Market Square and 10 mins walk to Cathedral. Location is great for walking about Durham and easy to walk back every night. Would certainly stay here again.

We enjoyed our stay and fully expect to return. We had no complaints at all and found the room to be well furnished and very clean. We stopped short of an 'excellent' rating because of the the size of the room and bed - perhaps others are larger. Also, we found it slightly strange that all breakfasts had to be... More

Wonderfully warm welcome, lovely touches in the sitting room - a sherry decanter for a nightcap. Enough room to work in the room with tea and coffee making facilities, good lighting, and fresh linen on the bed. First class breakfast with a good buffet and surprisingly good choice of hot food, full English, to Kippers to Portobello mushrooms. Friendly and... More

Cathedral view is amazing, I can't fault the service we got. Jim and Karen were fabulous hosts and everything they did was perfect. The views and location was amazing as well as the breakfast. There were so many choices and cooked to perfection. The room was immacule and personal. Honestly no complaints can be made.

Four of us stayed here for two nights mid February, absolute gem! Ticks all the boxes, warm, comfortable, spotless accommodation, relaxing surroundings, great breakfasts & very caring, helpful hosts - they would, we're sure, go to any lengths to make one's stay as perfect as possible. Durham is an entrancing short break venue & very much complimented by this perfect... More
