This hotel has great views, a very nice sized pool and a good spa and fitness center. The food served is also quite good and the hotel is a combination of american+ british charm. I would really appreciate free wifi, which is super expensive, though that seems to be the trent in the UK vs the US. Good location (close... More

Nice hotel, friendly staff, clean rooms and good food, However, as the room rates are high I think it disgraceful that one has to pay as much for Internet use, £15 per 24 hours, even £75 for a week is an extortionate price, even the WiFi cost the same, And the 24 hours wasn't for 24 hours usage, it was... A great few days at this excellent hotel. It is right in the heart of Durham and great for touring around (we went to Beamish and the Northumberland coast - both recommended).. We ate out on all three evenings but the breakfasts at the hotel set you up for the day. We were booked into a disabled room (as the... More

This is the second time I have stayed at this hotel in the last six months, but I have visited it many times in the distant past. On paper it has everything I need but in practice not everything goes as well as it should. The hotel is very spread out and getting to rooms can involve long corridors, bridges... More

We have stayed in this hotel a few times over weekends for special occasions in all types of rooms. Some rooms are better than others, even within the same price bands and when booked in advance, but all have been clean and very comfortable.Standard rooms in the riverside wing are larger and quieter as not as near the main road... Parked in hotel car park while having a meal in bar. Incidentally bar meal wasn't served until about 45 minutes after ordering so was provided for free as an apology. Obtained release code for exit barrier from reception. About a week later fine was received in post with photographic evidence. Calling duty manager at hotel was a waste of time.... More

I have stayed at this hotel many times over the last year. All staff are friendly, cheerful and welcoming. Really felt comforting to be arriving on Sunday night for work and the reception staff to remember my name. The Marriott system will always log your preferences or staff will remember and found I got the same room which I preferred... More

We stayed over the weekend - Good Friday to Easter Sunday with friends, we have been on two previous occasions and love Durham. Unfortunately we were given a below par room on the first night, I didn't get much sleep as there was a noisy fan outside our room and the room really wasn't fit for letting. We complained on...
