We stayed (with a friend) as we were going to a nearby wedding. We received a fairly lukewarm reception from the owner and our request for afternoon tea felt like an imposition. This is my second visit to Clare House. Dependable quality, superb food. Nothing is too much trouble, all the staff must be hand picked for everyone greets you like a friend. Had Sunday lunch here a couple of times, most recently two weeks ago. £21.50 for 3 courses. All delicious and served by friendly staff in lovely dining room. Warm home-made bread always perfect. Afterwards we had coffee in one of the lounges, sitting in a sunny bay window overlooking the bay.

Clare House is a quiet,occasionally quirky but superb place to stay on the South Western edge of the Lake District. The food is excellent served in a pretty restaurant by an attentive and caring staff lead by Bruno the French head waiter. Nothing is too much trouble.
