Stayed for one night in room five and we will be back. Room was very clean with a lovely window seat with a view to relax anyone. Staff were very nice and breakfast was perfectly cooked. The hotel is in a great location for a five minute bimble into Ballater. The hotel has a lovely feel to it and we... More

My husband, daughter and I re-visited Darroch Learg for a New Year break after "doing" Christmas for my husband's family (who all live in Ballater). The hotel is so lovely and welcoming, it feels like going to a friend's (rather special) house to stay. The other guests appeared to be a mix of regulars and new people, and it felt... More

I was driving to Aviemore in the Highlands but always love to make a stop in Ballater. I tried several places, but it seemed that many were closed given that this was November. I finally stumbled across the Darroch Learg, and so glad that I did. This hotel is one of those old, wonderful places with loads of character and... More

I'd love to stay here but my very good friends live just 11/2 miles away, so I stay with them and have brought them, to DL, for dinner, they eat here regularly, and so would I if I lived in Ballater. The owners are extremely hospitable, and on the two occasions I've visited DL, in Oct 2011 & Nov 2012,... More

The Owner is a very hospitable, charming hostess. Enjoyed dinner in the lovely town of Ballater after seeing the Queen in a tribute to her Jubilee. We had a wee dram in the cozy, fireplaced sitting room with our friends and ordered our dinner while enjoying delicious complimentory canapes. We were called into a lovely dining room to our table... We spent the last two nights of our honeymoon in the Scottish Highlands at the Darroch Learg and we had a very enjoyable stay. The hotel is situated in the middle of Ballater, on a hill side in very impressive surroundings. We stayed in a master bedroom (Birkhall) which was exquisitely decorated and well furnished. The large bay window gave... More

Very cozy family hotel (has been owned by the same family for 50 years). Warm and welcoming atmosphere, always with a smile. We came to Scotland to relax, and this place was perfect. The weather was terrible, as it was raining cats and dogs, but you don't go to Scotland to get a tan. We had long, good walks in... More

We were welcomed very warmly for sunday lunch and had fantastic food cooked by clearly a very talented chef. The beef was honestly the best we have ever had, the goats cheese souffle was exemplary. The service was prompt and very friendly and we will definitely return next time we are holidaying nearby.

Really enjoyed our stay. Lounge areas and restaurant beautifully furnished. We dined opting for the tasting menu which was extremely good. Great wine list. Excellent and efficient service. Hotel Rooms were Dated but had character and were comfortable with lovely views. Stair ways and corridors not very inviting. Really good breakfast
