The hostel is not cheap in general terms of hostels' pricing. But it's not TOO BAD for Norwegian standards. On the good side is amazing panoramic view for the city, you will enjoy your breakfast there (the buffet is nicely served). On the downside the location is not central - you will have to take a bus (a direct connection),... More

Hotels in Bergen were beyond my budget and I decided to stay at this YHA hostel, first experience of a hostel and I was pleasantly surprised. Location is a not central but it was easily reached by bus. The hostel provided detailed guide on how to get there. Located on a hill overlooking Bergen, this hostel provides a good arieal... More

The Good - Great location for hiking, very good breakfast, free wifi, free parking, grocery store very close, helpful staff. The Bad - Cleanliness of dorm rooms, not enough bathrooms for its capacity, grungy kitchen, 30-40 minute walk up/down a big hill from town, no bars nearby, Internet is spotty and slow.

Guest will have to factor in the extra transit costs to get here, as it's about 15 minutes by bus from the city center. I chose this place because I wanted to take the hike up Ulriken, for which the trailhead starts just around the corner from the hostel. It takes about 40-60 minutes to climb up there, and the... Nice busride ,line 12, up the mountain overlooking Bergen beautifully. Big hostel with turbulent kitchen and meeting room live. Good help on the desk where we took a 48hour Bergen pass for free museum visites. Bergen is worth the visit! Also booked some Hostel organised sea fishing. Room was was OK, not too clean, but for campers visiting the big... More

This was my first time staying in a hostel and I was really pleasantly surprised by the Montana. Yes, it's far out from the city centre but the bus service was fairly regular. The bus drivers are obviously used to hostel guests and were friendly (for the most part!) and happy to announce the right stop. Only real problem I... More

Good: lovely view, staff helpful, large lounge room with nice outlook, plenty of car parking, bunks comfortable, good varied breakfast. Could be better: sound travels so doors could have some kind of stoppers on them as everyone bangs the doors instead of closing them. Some 'quiet' signs might help too. The double room is actually bunks and is very small.... More

I stayed here and booked an ensuite room, when I arrived I was told they oversold and was given my own bunk room but had to use the common area bathrooms. They were okay, not too clean but not too dirty, from what I have seen in hostels around Europe. On my second day there, they put a group of... More

I've stayed at Montana maybe 4 or 5 times. This is economy accomodation & as such it's pretty much what you'd expect. The door in to the room was covered in greasy fingerprints and fatty stains, all the doors in the hallway were the same. These need to be cleaned. The breakfast is good and the staff are friendly. We... More

OK it is a bus ride out to this hostel, high above the city centre, but it is worth it. The views and the immediate access to intertesting footpaths up the nearby mountain are great. Stayed in the dorm and that was quiet enough. Kitchen (not the basement one) was adequately equipped. Ample hot water for showers which were clean.... More
