We arrived to a misunderstanding; a beautiful triplex awaited but we were afraid of the steep winding staircases with little kids and took a junior suite instead. Tower Room 3 (a two bedroom apartment) would have been excellent but it lacked a river view and the junior suite 40 was large enough with a pullout sofa and great views over... More

We stayed at the Schloss Durnstein in Durnstein, Austria for three nights in August. The restaurant at the hotel is remarkable for its excellent food and the serene, beautiful setting overlooking the Danube. Dinner is not over quickly, especially if you order the five-course (or more) "surprise" menu. But it was three plus hours very well spent. We ate there... More

The location of hotel is great - on the river Danube. Amazing hotel looks like a postcard. Is packed with antiques and art. There are two pools, one inside, one out. Our room was palatial, with a plate of fruit that welcomed us, huge bathroom. Window at our room opened up to one of the prettiest vistas I can remember... More

Anyone who would like to visit the Austrian Toscana (Wachau) be careful not to miss the Hotel Schloss in Dürnstein because it is a gem. We recently celebrated our 60th anniversary in this lovely place and I cannot be grateful enough to the Thiery family, to the whole staff (especially to Helga and Sandra) for their excellent service, kindness, attention... Visited this hotel on a recent family tript to Austria and Swithzerland. Booked well ahead and were promoised a "lovely large suite/apartment" Were we were put was in the hotel annex in a dirty old, oddly furnished dump. The bellman was surly and impolite and we had to ask to be shown around the hotel recreation areas after being asked... More

THE highlight of our trip to Austria, every little corner and cove of this amazing hotel looks like a postcard. The town is just charming – we took a sight seeing boat down the Danube from Melk that was beautiful, and pulled right up at the dock. We schlepped our bags up a pretty steep path to the hotel, only... More

As one whose reviews consist largely of Hilton Garden Inns, this one presents a real challenge. We were here two nights as part of a group bicycle trip through Czech Republic and Austria. The bike tour company books rooms for the group, which occupied maybe ten rooms: it is considered the "five star" highlight of the trip. We arrived after... More

Certainly, you have heard about the excellent location on a little hill overlooking the Donau. What I missed is service, service, service - rates are high, in particular if you book a room overlooking the Donau valley. The owners (the Family Thiery) was neither welcoming us, nor there at departure. I saw twice Mrs. Thiery quickly walking around, but she... More

It is our utmost concern to comment on this complaint: By comparison to the mentioned establishments in Baiersbronn, where guests stay for a long vacation, we do not exclusively welcome vacationers. Our castle is amidst cultural and scenic sights which are attractive to people all over the world staying here for 1 night only. Check-In time is 3 pm but... More

Staying at Schloss Durnstein makes you wonder how stars are attributed in Austria. I have an abondance of experience in staying in five star hotels and to my book, Schloss Durnstein can not even make it to four stars. The staff in reception can not be qualified as warm-welcoming at the checking. Increadibly tasteless and tarnished furnitures in the room.... More
