We stayed in this hotel on our honeymoon and it was excellent, Viana is also a great place so all in all made it a brilliant stay. The hotel itself had lots of character and was well decorated throughout, our room (infact a suite) was decorated very comfortably with a traditional style, our room was huge and the added living... We really enjoyed this hotel, in a centuries-old building in the center of Viana do Castelo. Renovated for use as a hotel in an imaginative, artistic way with lovely modern paintings and rugs and modern sculptures. The hotel is convenient to the train and bus terminals , near all shops and restaurants , and near the beautiful historic center. Besides... More

We had come to Portugal to attend the wedding of a friend and decided to have a few days at a resort on the Costa Verde beforehand.. It was an excellent decision. Viana do Castello is a delightful town; interesting architecturally, and near miles of unspoilt sandy beaches. But what made our holiday was the Melo Alvim House hotel. It... More

This hotel is a stunning renovation of a centuries-old manor house. The staff was very friendly & helpful with restaurant suggestions. The rooms were comfortable & very clean. We had a traditionally decorated room, but my daughter & her boyfriend were able to book a stylish, comtemporary room. Breakfast was very good, particularly because we enjoyed it in a lovely... More

From the moment we walked in, the service was spectacular. They maintained the "old/historical" look of the rooms with amazing detail. Its central location was excellent. Will definetly return!

We were delighted with our three night stay at the Melo Alvim . The staff were excellelent in all respects and gave us great restaurant recommendations. The rooms were spotless and the location convenient for walking all around Viana do Costelo. We ate one night at the hotel restaurant and found it to be wonderful. Parking is free and located... What a lovely place! Location is perfect with parking provided. The room was spacious and right out of a history book. The entire place is spotless and makes you feel like you have stepped back in time. The restaurant was excellent and the bar service was fantastic. We got "stuck" inside on a rainy day and enjoyed having the bar... More

A building with great character, a hotel with friendly staff and a nice restaurant. Rooms were immaculate and spacious, but there were a couple of down sides. I was on a business trip and couldn't connect to the available public wireless network (the hotel doesn't have one, only a single pc business centre) and staff couldn't help me. Secondly the... More

I'm always dubious having stayed in some well described dives at times, but I have to take my hat off, this is great. This place is beautifull. It is a classic Portuguese building and well transformed in to a modern and comfortable hotel. The superior room was lovely, the bathroom was as new (clean). We didn't get the oportunity of... More

Excellent hotel in a beautiful town! The location is perfect, right in town, yet quiet, and close to the train station. Everything about this hotel was perfect, from the beautifully-appointed, comfortable and sqeeky clean rooms to the friendly staff. Besides having breakfast, we ate dinner in the hotel's restaurant. Our waiter, Nanu, brought us the recipe for the "best asparagus... More
