i travel a lot and i am use to doing this on a budget, I have just conme back from a week here with my 27 year old son, we are not fussy individuals so i will keep this factual: There will certainly be some acceptable rooms in the hotel, but you may get the unacceptable ones like we did... More

Wife and I stayed for a week in January 2012. Upside: Great location at reasonable cost. Comfortable, clean room serviced daily, towels changed whenever required. Small fridge, kettle and cups provided in room. Ample breakfasts. Flat screen sat-TV (wife caught up with last year's Eastenders that she had missed.....). Safe in room. Midside: Medium sized room, small shower cubicle in... More

Like most of us, I have stopped in some good hotels (with family or work) and some cheap hotels (stag do's & lads' trips). This is head and shoulders the worst I have EVER stopped in. It absolutely stinks, hasn't had a cent spent on it in decades and the bathroom ceiling was so damp and filthy I had to... More

I stayed in Residencial Americana in the heart of Funchal in july 2011 for a week. The Americana is a simple, clean, and friendly hotel, situated in the town center. I had a room with a comfiy bed, sat-tv, fridge, mirror, wardrobe, and a small bath room attached. The room had wooden floors and high ceilings. The hotel is in an... More

This small property is very central in the heart of old Funchal. Very close to the Cathedral. Old Portugese house with high ceilings. You have a key to the front door at street level and another for your bedroom. On first arrival you press an entrance button and an intercom will ask you for your name, once they have established... Residencial Americana is situated in the center of Funchal, right next to Cathedral Se. It has 2 buildings and the one our studio was in has elevator so we had no problems with the stairs. The apartment was basic and it had no coffee/tea machine as it was written in the description.

This was excellent value for money and brilliantly central opposite the cathedral. Smack in the middle of everything. We had a self-contained apartment and could cook our own food. After visiting the rest of the city, we could not have picked better location. I would have chosen this hotel again. Tiny warning - only trouble in winter (it rained nearly... More

Have previously stayd in hotel zone in Funchal and found it inconvenient - especially in January when more likely to rain! Need to be able to climb 39 steps to reception & rooms on 2nd floor. Quite difficult when arriving with heavy luggage. Had very nice clean room at front of hotel with small balcony. Breakfast same every day as... More

We use this bed and breakfast facilty for adding days to our timeshare weeks. Situated close to Funchal Cathedral, it is very clean and comfortable, with on suite bathroom. Well priced, with or without breakfast. However, do be warned, that access and egress, is by a very steep staircase.
