The Cidade Velha is welcoming and efficient, and was the cheapest available when I booked a month or less in advance. I was given a nice room with veranda away from the street. At 40€ for a single room this was the most expensive place I have stayed in The Algarve. The room was pretty much spotless as was the comfortable sized bathroom and shower. Our experience: - In august you cannot book a room by phone, but only by person (you have to be in Lagos). The lady said: "You need to come here and If there are rooms available, it's ok.
