This hotel was a real delight and I am giving it a top rating not because it was perfect but because I enjoyed the experience of staying in this beautiful old family-run hotel so much. The owner was welcoming, helpful and approachable. It was the house of a wealthy merchant with many original features (lovely dark floorboards and winding staircases)... More

Excellent central location. We had a deal to get larger rooms for standard price. One was very big the other spacious but a little gloomy. NOT modern but warm and rooms had all we needed. Showers very good. Staff helpful. Breakfast very nice . We liked the quirkiness and the original features.

The Hotel Erasmus is a nice and cozy place with squeaking floors, and lots of little nooks. The décor is done in an antique theme – complete with canopy headboards on the beds, and a full-size armour in the dining room, overlooking a tiny French “park” in the backyard. The hotel only has 2 stars, but even though I was... More

Conference accommodation usually involves annonymous boxes within boxes run by familiar names. Erasmus' webite offered an escape I was only too keen to take (and about 10e cheaper than the offcial conference hotel). Following a knock on the heavy wooden door I walked back 400 years. Worth staying just to enjoy the feeling of entering a Merchant house from a... More

This is a very atmospheric hotel with a delightful knot garden viewed from the breakfast room. I stayed for one night with a friend who had left his wallet behind, we realised, when we were waiting to get back on Eurostar in Brussels, The receptionist was a bit diffident about disturbing the new guests in my friends room but did... The building is a 15th century town house so is quite interesting historically, but my room was incredibly dark and the owners are obviously very keen on energy-saving lightbulbs, which didn't help. The general air was one of slight shabbiness (one of the curtains was apparently falling off), but, on the plus side, the bed was very comfortable and the... More

Very charming place with loads of character. A stones throw from historic Ghent, which is an amazing town! The staff was friendly and helpful, rooms were lovely and breakfast was delicious.

I had a really good stay at Erasmus Hotel, though I principally just used it for sleeping and eating breakfast. It's a very atmospheric hotel - and I chose to see the rather steep stairs (no elevator) as an element of charm rather than a problem. Could be a problem for older people, though. The room was just right for... More

Great location, right after the St.Michaels bridge, it's a pity we had to carry large suitcase to the attic where was our room (no elevator). The room was very spacey but they save on electricity so we could barely see something in the evening. The breakfast was timid but the dining room was very attractive.

I really don’t understand all these people complaining about this hotel. Hello – how much opportunity each of them had to sleep in a beautiful 17th century old building? Oh, yes, some things could be refurbished – but who would like ikea furniture or something “modern” in such a beautiful hotel and city?! The room had everything that we needed... More
