We have stayed at the Hotel Bouwer many times. It is a characteristic 1600's hotel with uneven floors and plenty of charm. This may not be everyone's "cup of tea", but we love it. a lot of character. all rooms face canal. Walking distance from train station. Red light district several blocks away but right next door was you guessed it a red lighted window. So probably not for families with small kids but then neither is Amsterdam..
