When visiting towns and cities for a couple of days, we have come to the conclusion that you don't need to pay over the top for posh hotels, as it's the city you are visiting not the hotel! We were delighted with this little hotel, lovely old building renovated to a very good standard. We were given a warm welcome,... More

We stayed in the attic of the 1634 building. It's on a gracht (canal) in the centre of Groningen. The room was very comfortable, and the interior of the hotel is very stylish and enjoyable to be in. If we return to Groningen, we will return to the hotel. Note: There is a good parking garage just over the canal... More

Some hotels are effortlessly not looking like hotels but succeed in making you feel as if you stay with some good friends instead. Corps de Garde is a nice, lovely looking place to spend a good couple of days in Groningen. Yes, it may be noisy at times because of the wooden floors and lack of double glazing, but those... More

You enter through the restaurant and find out that the bar is the reception. You feel being in a Dutch pub or English Inn and are welcomed by friendly and hospitable staff. The owners have been gifted, being able to turn this monument into modern hotel that did not loose its historical identity. We are in Groningen and for the... More

The best feature of the hotel is the ever helpful staff, always willing to expedite requests promptly. The building itself is an historic army guard house given that in mind the rooms have been renovated to the point were they are spacious and comfortable The windows could do with some double-glazing investment as the noise from the street is loud... Recently we stayed at the hotel. We had the "balkenkamer". The room itself wasn't that impressive, but is was oke. The staff is very helpfull and polite. Breakfast is lovely with very tasty bread and buns.

Although we only stayed one night, it was a charming visit. The room was spacious and beautifully renovated. The staff was extremely friendly. The buffet breakfast (€ 14,50 pp) was lovely with a large variety of local breads, cheeses, meats, yogurt, fruits and made-to-order bacon and eggs. The location couldn't be more convenient for walking to the busy center of... More

Corps de Garde is a Boutique Hotel located in the city center of Groningen. Rooms (including bathroom) are very spacious, very elegantly decorated, and comfortable. Staff is very friendly and professional. I particularly liked the modern and unique design of the room.

We stayed here one night in Room 8, a spacious, light room with a high ceiling and numerous windows, some overlooking the canal. The Auberge is on the edge of the historic centre, but within an easy walk of the sights and restaurants. It doesn't have its own parking, but there is underground parking on the opposite bank of the... More

We stayed here for 4 nights and loved our time. We stayed in the attic style room and it was so unique, with the original beams and lovely lamps to add atmosphere. My mother is from Groningen, so we were spending time looking at family history, where my mother lived etc, the staff at the hotel were so helpful and... More
