This is a very pleasant looking hotel. The entrance is very bright and airy, and all the public rooms are spotlessly clean. Our room was at the front of the hotel with magnificent views across the lake to the mountains. This too was bright and clean with a lovely balcony. Unfortunately, while we were there it was very, very hot... More

Set alongside the beautiful Lake Maggiore, this was a good hotel on a coach trip a couple of years ago. The rooms were good, the facilities good, but the food and the service was quite excellent. Stresa itself, was a beautiful town, typical Italiann and the people were so firndly

My wife and I have been visiting The Astoria Hotel, Stresa for a number of years. It is in a perfect setting to enjoy the town of Stresa and its surroundings with a frontage facing the Lake Maggiore and the Islands. These and other coastal areas, including Locarno are easily reached by frequent ferries. Local, reasonably priced, buses and trains... More

This hotel was in the right position for views, shops, bars, if you needed them! The hotel was clean, the staff were friendly, helpful. The food was good, plenty of variety. Lake Maggiore is just beautiful.

We didn't choose the back, we were put there. Our Oct. visit with Riviera co-incided with a mini-heatwave. There was no air-conditioning, and room built up heat all day, so stiffling when wanting to go to bed. Asked at desk for air-conditioning and was told, by a tall miserable looking individual, it was 5 degrees last week, as if this... More

Hotel very satisfactory though by no means the best 4 star we have stayed in.Room spotless and well appointed. Based on earlier reviews we opted for a quiet room at the back of the hotel overlooking thehills of Stresa. Thanks also to other reviews we found the roof patio with its wonderful panoramic views but it seemed to be our... More

The front desk crew was mostly gruff except for the night man. The clientele is generally fairly geriatric, 80+...has a distinct feeling of being in a nursing home...the hotel is definitely tired...in need of a face lift, especially the bathrooms. Location is excellent...does not live up to it's 4 stars...

This hotel is in a fantastic lakeside location with a short walk to the centre of Stresa where there are plenty of restaurants. The public areas are lovely, and desk and bar staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms seem to vary greatly. Initially we were given a very average room next to the lift shaft which was extremely noisy, moved... More

The power of Italy once again corrupted us. This time Kelly was pregnant and I'd barely recovered from a routine procedure that didn't quite go as planned leaving me slightly incapacitated. We needed somewhere quiet, flat, not too hot and close to home. We settled on Stresa a small town nestled into the shoreline of Lake Maggiore. We booked an... More

Stayed here for a week. Very typical of a family run hotel with good service. Rooms spacious and comfortable apart from the pillows. Cooking very bourgeois - do not expect international cuisine. Sunday night buffet exceptionally good, particularly the antipasti. Wine selection good and competetively priced. Hotel is very convenient for all of Stresa. Swimming pool good and plenty of... More
