My wife and I recently traveled to Italy for a 16 day vacation. Our first stop was Rome and stayed at this property. Compared to the other places we stayed and what we paid this property was very good value for money. The rooms are older but very clean and tidy. The room we were given had its own kitchenette so that was good. It was located about 40 meters down the road from the Colosseum so each morning as we walked to the metro station or bust stop we were treated to that magnificent view. The rooms them. The metro station at the Colosseum is less that a Kilometer walk from the property and the hop on hop off bus stop is about 600 meter walk so you can access the rest of Rome easily. There is a twenty four hour convenience store that we used to buy food and coffee for breakfast and very tasty fresh made croissants. There are good restaurants all round the hotel and on our first night we sat at a little restaurant on the opposite the Piazza Del Collosseo with a backdrop of the Colosseum lit up at night. Not a bad way to start a vacation. If your looking for a modern new hotel like you would find in Asia this is not for you but if you are looking for a good value great location hotel then this would work. I have read complaints about other rooms from other guest but all I can comment on is the one we had which was fine. When we returned to Rome to fly out we stayed overnight at the Mercure Hotel Colosseum at 270 Euros a night plus an additional 18 Euros each for breakfast. Both my wife and I commented we should have returned here. Better value When you arrive you need to go to the street Piazza Del Colosseo as the reception is on this street and the rooms are on Via Dei Santi Quatro. Transfer took us to the address of the rooms and it took a bit to figure out that the reception is up the street. There is a big green door with call buttons at the side. Reception is the last door on the right

Manager was late for our check in and it was downhill from then on. The apartment (number 10 ground floor) was dark with faulty electrics. The kitchen equipment was either broken or poor quality. The wifi patchy at best and on our last night the automatic fire alarm kept going off all night - nobody came to turn it off. There was little or no communication with the staff. Overall a very poor stay and I would not recommend. Stay at MarcoAurelio49 if you can

Stayed here in late August. This room could have bean a 4.5 if not for the stuff around with checking in. Received an email 2 days before stating if arriving after 4pm will be charged a 20 euro late fee. We were also given the wrong address twice, 1 by Expedia and 1 by their website. Do not pay the supposed late fee it is a scam

Excellent location, quiet and close to the Colosseum at the same time. Nice staff, however they did not speak any English (they spoke Italian and Spanish). First night I spent in a room in a cellar. This one was extremely small with almost no day light and it was quite smelly. The following nights I spent in a room on the first floor and it was very nice, clean, big enough.

We stayed here for four nights. The location is superb - very close to the Colosseum and the forum, and within easy walking distance of many of the main sights. Our room was lovely - very large and comfortable, with air conditioning, wifi and a fabulous massaging shower. It even had a fridge and a basic kitchenette so we could keep drinks cold and prepare our own snacks - a good idea in Rome given the prices in some of the bars! However, the room was not in the hotel itself, but in an annex down the road. Whilst not a problem in itself, we did get a lot of traffic and bar noise all night, and the noise (and music) of private residents who owned flats in the same building. Take your ear plugs! We also seemed to have a limited supply of hot water, so getting 2 showers in the morning only worked if we were quick, and we couldn't really enjoy or appreciate the lovely massaging jets! All in all this hotel was good - it is very reasonably priced compared to others in Rome, and the amenities are good. The only slight issue we had was that the owners spoke nothing but Italian. there is no 24 hour reception so if you have a question or a problem (our light bulbs went) then you have to phone them, and conversation/explanation can be complicated! the lady in the café down the road is bilingual though, so she helped us! I would stay here again. .

The best thing about this hotel is definitely the location. It is close to Colosseum and "Colosseo" metro station (line B) where you can easily access the essential city districts for sightseeing and shopping. Near the hotel there is "Claudia" bus stop where one can get directly to Vatican by bus number 81. The city district Trastevere can be reached by changing bus #81 to tram #8 at Piazza Venezia. One-way taxi trip between the hotel and Trastevere (Ponte Sisto) costs around 10 euros. Unfortunately, the breakfast was only a cup of coffee and 1 croissant in a corner café next to the hotel. They didn't have any special diet options (e.g. gluten-free) available so I had to start my day with only a single cup of cappuccino. Luckily, there was a grocery store around the corner where I could buy something to fill my stomach with in the mornings. Be warned that the walls of the hotel building are paper thin. The street noise and noises from the reception (which is right outside the rooms) can easily invade your room. Plus the reception starts receiving phone calls from as early as 9 am. This means you get a wake-up call by the reception's loud phone every morning between 9 and 10 am which can be annoying if you happen to be a late sleeper. The shower drains in the building seem to be quite clogged which can cause the bathroom to flood and the water to come to the bedroom during showers. To avoid this, do not turn the water flow to maximum when taking a shower. All in all a decent stay with good location if you can stand the above mentioned annoyances.

A very warm welcome to a very warm Rome from the young proprietors of the accommodation. Our apartment was accessed via the office so felt very secure: always a nagging doubt when there is an unmanned shared front door. The room was very tastefully decorated with a glimpse out on to a sunlit courtyard – access would have been a bonus. Some of the fittings were beginning to show signs of wear and tear – one bedside light had a “do not use” note scrawled below the carbon burn mark on the wall – a faulty switch can happen anywhere and anytime and arriving on Sunday we’ll give it the benefit of the doubt. Only two smallish towels were provided on arrival – we mentioned this and returned to find a copious supply. A small fridge was a godsend in Rome's heat . Location is everything with this apartment. The Collosseum is at the end of the street and quite fun to see the “Gladiators” in full Roman soldier regalia turning out of their apartments to go to work of a morning . Gladiators do not wear Roman Soldier uniforms but let’s not be picky. Breakfast was in a friendly coffee bar on the street corner. A voucher entitled one to a good coffee and two pastries: they do like a sugary bun in the morning in Italy but plain croissants were available even if the locals find a plain croissant slightly “puritan”. Just around that same corner were hospitable outdoor tables – a very informative wine list and decent food: no doubt foodies will have other recommendations but Divinostilia was handy and far outclassed a highly recommended and best forgotten spot on a previous Rome visit. Full marks to the Ministry of Culture for allowing free access to most sites including the Collosseum and Forum to over 65s

My partner had used this accommodation before and recommended I book it. I had mailed ahead as I suspected we might arrive mid evening and am aware that many owners do not live on site. This was not a problem to us, we had a confirming email saying the room would be there for us. However when we arrived it wasn't possible to rouse anyone, either by buzzing the door, phoning the landline or indeed the mobile number given. I was beginning to think that we might have to spend the night sleeping in the foyer when my partner had the idea to try one of the nearby bars and see if anyone knew of the owner. The bar he went into by luck had another number and called the owner. We were expecting a room in the main apartment block as we had seen in the details on Booking.com. The guy who had come to meet us asked for cash and shower us to a basement room in another building which, although very clean and new, was clearly being renovated. I dislike basements and being delivered to an undeground cell at the end of a long passage was only acceptable because it was late and the alternative was to try and find another hotel - it took us long enough to find a room weeks beforehand! The bathroom had a leak and the flor was covered with water - if the renovations were complete, this might have been checked and rectified. Had we been able to find anyone in the morning, we would have notified them. The room is noisy - for me noise is not generally a problem, I have stayed in rooms in central London where reviews have complained of noise from the underground and not even noticed it myself. Here there were voices til the early hours and comings and goings - you will need earplugs. Breakfast is somewhere else altogether, we never did discover where, our check in was flustered and late and we realised later that we had no actual note of the breakfast venue - it was gestured with a sweep of the arm, we had assumed it to be next door. Get a map with it marked on, breakfast with views of the Colosseum may prove to be expensive if, like us, you end up having to buy it as an extra! The locality is convenient for the Metro, Colosseum and Roman ruins. Accommodation is generally a signicant part of your trip. It was disappointing that ours was not what we felt we had booked and did not flow smoothly. I recommend that you establish whether your room will be in the actual apartment block or in the basement with a vent to street level - unless of course you are happy to be put in the basement - it's a nice basement if you don't mind.

A nice clean hotel. Close to the colosseum. The guys in the hotel were very friendly and very helpful especially when I had to cut short our visit when my husband was taken ill. I can not thank them enough.
