The hotel's location is perfect...a 20 minute walk from the Colosseum, a 10 minute walk from the Pantheon; 2 minutes from the Area Sacra (where Julius Caesar was stabbed) and a short walk away from the Campo de' Fiori square. You're also very close to tram/bus stops (although a word of warning, it's usually fairly packed with people so making... More

We stayed here for 2 nights the location was great but the rooms are quite basic, no frills. The rooms are small, flat screen tV, bathroom is tight. We stayed in a room that overlook Forno Riscoli so it was not too quiet at all. They have free internet downstairs and breakfast. If you are looking for something simple inexpensive... More

I have brought small groups to Hotel Smeraldo since the year 2000. This quaint hotel provides exactly what my groups are looking for in a Roman hotel: a renovated historic building, immaculately clean rooms with private baths, two outdoor terraces that are the perfect setting for "happy hour" gatherings, and LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. Imagine yourself in a tucked-away Roman neighborhood,... More

We had 3 adults (my husband, elderly Aunt, and I) and a 2 1/2 year old boy. If you book online, they will require you to get 2 rooms and my Aunt was not comfortable being alone. When we called, they accomodated us in a comfortable 3 bedroom for a reasonable rate.. it is worth the international call (just skype... More

We spent three nights at this hotel in Rome. Our room was lovely but the room and bathroom were very, very small. They must have bigger rooms. The hotel was well maintained. Breakfast was included and was adequate. Our room was very clean. Hotel staff was helpful. I would stay here again but request a larger room. The hotel has... More

We stayed here with a large group about 7 years ago, and decided to revisit for a family break. Great decision. We were in the annex - two teenage boys in a twin room, next door to me and my husband. The staff were friendly and helpful, and very patient with my almost non-existant Italian! Breakfast set us up well... More

We were disappointed in this hotel since it was listed by Rick Steves. This is a very basic hotel with no atmosphere or frills but it is in a good location. We had two rooms in the annex building across the street from the main building. The rooms were well appointed and clean but were so small there was barely... More

We arrived at the hotel at around 9:30 AM and check-in had not started yet, so we left our luggage with the front desk and went out to wander the city a bit. After a while we headed back to the hotel and got checked in. If you were looking for a roomy hotel room, this was not for you.... More

A group of 8 ladies stayed at this hotel in September for two nights - should have been three but the Italians went on strike on our first day! The hotel were great in rearranging our booking and the minibus transfer from the hotel. The rooms were on the small side but for Rome this was the norm and we... More
